((edited))whups... just read you tried multiple programs...
You know, .kar files are specific... I don't know which ones work with .midi files... many players play that, but I don't know which ones work with karaoke .cdg screens...
I do know that powerkaraoke will convert the .kar files to a .cdg format...
It ain't free, but it is affordable, and the guy that wrote that program DOES come to this site!
Sorry Nancy, wish I could be of more help.
Where did you get these files from?

If they are only in Chinese, do you expect a program to translate them in to another language?

try to call the Manufacturer of the disc and see if they recommend a particulary brand of machine that will supposedly play that type of karoeke file. Go to the source.

Nancy, can you email me one of the KAR files you are having problems with? I will check what can be done to make Siglos Karaoke Player/Recorder support it. My email is info (at) powerkaraoke.com

OK, I got the files. I have added this to the things-to-do list. Please email us in two weeks -- it looks like it should be pretty simple thing to do.

Siglos Karaoke Player/Recorder 1.0.6 should play your files properly. You may need to change font and/or codepage in Display Settings to one that supports Chinese characters.

Also there is a midi editor called power tracks that comes with *shudder* band in a box. I dumped band in a box and kept power tracks cos it was a decent prog and will play .kar files and edit them etc

The problem is with Chinese characters (and other multibyte scripts) -- they have to be treated is a special way and Van Basco does not display them properly.
