Didn't BD say that at his shows there is no filler music, no talking on the mic, just pass his $600 mics from one person to the next, all karaoke all the time?  Now look what he says.  The dog has to make up his mind.

Yeah, Timberlea, we know.  As DBK1009 pointed out other inconsistencies.  What BD forgets is I am in the paying audience.  And for several weeks back in the fall, when I couldn't sing, I continued to attended/support the shows regularly frequented.

And, once again, BD proclaims results without any substantive material to prove/explain how those results are achieved.  Lastly, he has too much Sinatra, Diamond and (probably) Elvis in his catalog for my taste.  And the club owners who now have me thinking about AGE, would probably THROW out BD for his lack of Eminem, Snoop, Shaggy, Lil Kim, Bow Wow, 50Cent.....

And what did he say in the thread about age regarding catering to younguns?

What ceremonies have you mastered lately, SwingCat?  And did you get anywhere with that ragtime website?

My big concern just starting out is that some venue owners will try to feed on me.  So, maybe I better avoid being a host?

Emceed a benefit show at the bar I had been KJ/DJing with the live Cuban Salsa band they have every Thursday night. This was a special Sunday show and I did all the intros of the band, DJ'd salsa music in between sets, did a raffle for door prizes and then salsa dancing and latin karaoke after the band show.

Here's a brief write up of the show that the editor of the magazine I write for put in her column--look about 2/3rds of the way down the column:

http://www.positivelyentertainment.com/ ... notes.html

As to owners---they will try to DEVOUR and CONSUME you if you let them. Thats why I bailed on The Grand Cafe(mentioned in the column) last week. So just BEWARE!!

If I sing a song, it's not filler/dance music as many non professionals try to use to make up for their KJing deficencies.   It's a karaoke song, sung as a karaoke song.     Used to entertain the entire crowd and change the mood in the direction I want it to go.     So don't put words in my mouth.

If you have all the answers, what are you doing here?    You should already be a big KJ host/star.    We should be begging you for your vast experience/information.... :O  :worship:  :worship:  LMAO  LMAO  LMAO  LMAO

No M&M and such.    I don't cater to punks and wannabe, white rappers.    :O

Just remember, you are free to do things your way.    We'll see how long you last.   :O  Prove me wrong. LMAO

Hmm not sure who BD's last post is directed at. But clearly someone hit a RESONANT NERVE. Musta hit him pretty close to the mark. He ALWAYS GETS RILED UP, PETULANT and VERY WHINEY when you HIT THE NAIL ON HIS POINTY LITTLE HEAD!!

LMAO  LMAO  LMAO  LMAO  LMAO  LMAO

Just don't change things I say, to fit what you may be thinking.   If I say it, that's exactly what I mean.

I'm amazed at the amount of seasoned KJ professionals here.    That after 1 month to 5 years, have all the answers and experience.     Tell us more please, before my business runs completely into the ground. :O  :worship:

I prefer a KJ that is entertainting without himself being THE intertainer. As for myself when I was still an active club kj; I was more of a fader pusher.

Before this turns into the all-out brawl it could be, let me interject. What I am hearing from BD is that he knows his audience and keeps things moving...his level of involvement in the "entertaining" is going to depend on what it takes to get the crowd involved. As it should for any host, emcee, whatever. I think that it is a sound way to run a show, and I think if y'all would slow down for a minute, you would see that just about everyone who has commented here runs their show that way, you just phrase it differently in the thread.

An audience of mostly singers vs. one of mostly non-singers will usually have a different "requirement" for what "entertains" them.

Eric, you concern me thinking that BD's (or anyone's) book has too much of a certain genre. If I have 50 Barbra Striesand songs in my book, I am not going to sing Striesand all night, I am going to sing one or two tonight and a different one or two next time. You won't have to hear me sing the same two songs over and over if you offer me more than two.
