Thanks for the Rainbow site Twansenne !!     I'm reading about RexAire concept now.  This is all new to me !   What can really beat water as a filterate ??

Here's YET another tawk topic  !!

Unlike a car, what gives you best bang for your buck used, or when removed from your ritzy condo complexes dumpster ?

Yes !!  The answer is A vacuum cleaner !   Are you aware how many people in upper- middle class multidwelling complexes throw out (rather than donate and sell) the GOOD solid vacuums rather than clean something on them, adjust the beater brush height ?  or just get a smaller model and throw away the really good quality OLD metal electrolux canister vacs with beater brush head etc ?   Seriously !   I found some VERY nice working and even excellent condition electrolux and Hoover vacuums on trash day curbside, and in the dumpster housing..  Vacuums need not cost over 500 bucks !!   We live in a society that throws away some very nice stuff !!

Ok, now tawk !

It's actually pretty sad when you consider some of the things that end up thrown away. People don't want to wait for the full day margin Salavation Army, GoodWill, and a few of the other agencies want for a pickup window, and sometimes these agencies and church groups just don't show. People end up quite irrate. Many don't want to pay to advertise in local traders or bargain papers, classified sections aren't cheap, and many refuse to allow strangers into their home, for some it's just ALOT easier to throw something away, than sell it for a few hundred bucks (which can be somewhat time consuming, and not as quick as a trip to the trash) !   Even great condition 27 inch televisions (no remote) have been salvaged by me.  The things that have become "Throw-away" rather than donations (even for tax deductions) astound me.  Of course some of the people by now probably realize..

"Just put it in the trash,  Kappy will end up with it on his living room wall".  Even audio cabs in mint condition.   I'm not too proud to take something really nice out've the garbage.  I can't stand when people throw out healhy plants ! I don't like to see living things thrown away.  I'm like Milo is with pets when it comes to plants  LOL .. I have a plant orphanage  LOL ..

none other than the vocally gifted (wannabe CT Yankee) !   "OK what now"  LMAO

Billy, when are you going to call ?  Sheesh,  I've been sitting glued to the phone awaiting a call from you for a month ~

that'd be a nice song for you Billy.  "Please Call Home"- Allman Bros.

Another aspect of Kirby and electrolux cleaners is that because they last and last, and are such workhorse type cleaners, they are a dime a dozen on the used market, and great buys for about 100 bucks or less..

I live in a college town & I used to clean student apartments in between semesters...the stuff these kids throw away is crazy !! Like you mentioned tvs & stereos...I got the pc desk Im still using today from doing that. I also got an entertainment center & the other girls working with me got clothes & whole bottles of shampoo that was left in the medicine cabinets even. You dont wanna hear the rest of the stuff we found...(yuck) Ya know it amazes me that they spend years in college to learn how to be Dr.'s & such & have no clue how to clean a bathtub !! We literally had to use razor scrapers on fiberglass tubs to get the soap scum off, it was that thick ! It was like snow falling !!

regarding the robot vacs: I have the Roomba and I LOVE it. It actually pics up better than my stand up vac. My only problem, if you leave it on the charger too long without using it, the battery isn't worth a crap.

One of the fun things about it, you start thinking of it as a pet. Even my husband thinks of it as a pet. It can be quite amusing to watch :)

Galye would like to adopt one. I wonder if there is a Roomba rescue near here.

Oh...... the days of dumpster diving.....When I lived in an apartment I lived right accross the parking lot from the dumpster. I also didn't work so if my woindows were open I could see what people left there.  I picked up two very nice dressers that had been painted several times.  I took them to my patio, stripped them down and refinished them..  They have been great dressers..THEY DON'T BUILD THEM LIKE THAT ANYMORE....  And from what I understnd the ole ex husband is still using both of them...LOL..I hope he gets a splinter...LOL

I used to live next to a huge college. At the end of every semester there would be a wealth of goodies in every dumpster and lawn waiting for collection or a new home.

I never had to buy a bicycle once I moved to that town or even parts to fix one. TCs dressers, bedframes, even once a car. I owned a '71 Ford Torino GT with a 351 Cleveland engine when I was 14.

I miss that town.

Ah dumpster diving, one of my favorite past times.  One time when the company my dad worked for was going out of business they had one final party for the employees called a dumpster diving party.  They had a live band and a HUGE dumpster that we all got to dig through while throwing more stuff in.  It was a BLAST.  BTW this was a private recording and production studio.  We have more Jenny Craig tapes than anyone could use in a lifetime, we just tape over the end and record on them.

I once found a perfectly good rabbit cage by someones trash can.  I claimed it with relish and still house bunnies in it to this day.

I also have several movie mobiles and stand ups from when I worked in a strip mall with a video store in it.

Oh and then there was the time a friend had to give up his house because his father was in jail and he couldn't pay the back taxes.  We helped him move out and then he gave us free rein of the house to take whatever we wanted.  We got dressers, jewelry and 2 sets of elf horns, and much more that I can't remember.  Everything else got left in the house when they bull-dozed it.

Exactly the type of situation where you'll find some amazing things in very large upper-class mult-dwelling complexes that are transient areas. Landlords that need to clean out condo's of a young couple that broke up and quickly ran out of their lease, yet the girl left behind the memories of her ex (his possessions), any situation like that.  Evictions from rental units.. But in so many cases , people that think it's easier to throw something away, than to advertise it and sell it for a few hundred bucks and have no-shows, stangers entering their home, taking time to buy an advertisement block in a newspaper, etc

You asked !! LOL !...Actually not a dorm, apartments off campus (U of F, BTW as of last night college football national champions !!! Whoo Hooo !!  :hi5:  )

We found stashes.. I mean of playboys ...Uggghhh gross !!! ( ya know they were used LOL)  Stashes of drugs ( well only one time) & usually wed clean up right before they got back (mgmt. choice guess b/c they wanted it "freshly" cleaned) so the places would sit for weeks before we went in & they had parties before theyd leave & left food out & the maggots (just a few times) wer sooo disgusting Thank God I did bathrooms (or not LOL) Also found a collection, I mean a collection of USED condoms under a bed Now talk about gagging THAT I gagged at !! I wouldnt even go near them !!  Anyways I could go on but the rest arent as interesting LOl Just normal "these people are slobs" talk LOL !!

Of course this is one example of why it's so nice to be older, more mature, and a home-owner.  Nobody disturbs our piles of playboys and maggots  LOL

(never could figure out the stigma of maggot's and roaches.  These are perfectly adaptable pets for small condo's such as my own, not high maint. like your dogs and cats)
