We've recently added Trivia as part of our slow weekday shows... It works great.
What I do is prepare 32 questions 8 per round for 4 rounds. We do slides (JPG or GIF) for showing the questions on the screen as we read them. The rotation goes as follows... Singer, Question, Singer etc etc... after the 8th  question we give the answers for scoring and give away a prize using a drawing... end of the night sheets are turned in with totals.... high score wins..... timing works out just about perfectly. We start at 9 PM and finish usually within 15 minutes of 1 AM... if the place is busy we'll run singers till 2....
Anyone with other ideas? if you want to see the slides and how we do it just send me a message here or kickinkaraokenc@yahoo.com

That's a reason why I go to one certain karaoke bar for their NTN Trivia, it's a great time killer for the sober.

You could let the regular singers sing more.... it's the kind of night singers dream of....small rotation ....sing more....tell their friends how many songs they get to sing...they tell more singers to come... :O

That sounds like fun, but I would worry about what type of crowd I was building.
What happens when you start building a bigger karaoke crowd? do you do less trivia. What if you create a trivia crowd more than a karaoke crowd because people don't want to wait to sing?

I think it is a great idea to come up with ideas to fill the night if you don't have enough singers. What scares me is when it is built into your regular schedule and not karaoke related.

When I started I had to build a crowd and tried to be creative. But I would not have the crowd I have today if I was still filling time with games instead of karaoke. The games I used also centered around karaoke and were never part of a built in schedule.

You'll have to let us know how it works out in the long run. I'm curious to see where it takes you.

Small rotations = me trying out different/newer songs,  if they want trivia unless its for drinks or a 2 for 1 in the rotation, there's the NTN trivia or the Coin operated Bar-cades.   Don't over indulge trivia into the karaoke.

Playing Trivia isn't any worse that playing dance/filler music.   It still keeps the dedicated karaoke customers from singing as much as they could be.     They still get screwed.    :O
