I kept seeing that message up top
PLEASE VERIFY THAT YOU ARE HUMAN
But it wasn't clear to me just how I was supposed to do this.
Finally halfway down the profile box, I saw the question
"Are you a human".. Now being the analytical type person I am, after only about 15 minutes I was able to figure out that I need to change the "no I am a spambot" question way down on the questions list, to YES.
This is obviously a new feature added to the profile feature.

One of these days, I'd like to learn how a spambot can register for a site ? Let's assume the question read
"Please verify that you are human by answering the question in the members area with "Yes I am Human" it currently reads " NO, I am a Spambot".
How would a spambot know to do that ? This would also make it readily apparent what I am being asked to do for confirmation.

I wonder why when you clicked my profile, your name still appeared as "Neo". Not just once, but all 83 times this morning ?
Oh, and Happy New Year. I was in here chatting with Vicki when the clock struck midnight my time last night. 2006 hasn't been the most eventful year. This is about one of the least exciting New Years I've had... (no offense Vickie) . I just would prefer to have more exciting options than the computer at midnight New Years Eve. If I'm typing in KS at midnight New Years Eve next year, somebody shoot me !

Hey Jesse/ Neo et al.
So I don't have to go clicking on your profile yet again, and scroll back to your first posts. I'm assuming based on your being here at least a year that I know you as another SN here ? Who were you mid-2005 ? OR weren't you active in the forums. You've almost been a member as long as I've been a member.

I didn't post much at all in the forums back then, I was more interested in posting my songs over in the singers showcase....But since that is no longer anymore fun due to people insisting that I suck at singing, then I gave up and play in the forums now as it is much more fun than having people telling you that your singing sux.
In here it is much more fun!! LMAO
Besides...who can compete with Pro Rat Pack singers who do it for a living...Heck Im just a karaoke singer...so I give up!!! :rotflmao:

Despite numerous requests asking me to sub in SS, I've found a guaranteed method of saving myself the humiliation of having to hear that I suck. When asked to sub, I say "H&LL NO".
It really works well too ! I've yet to get a bad rank, or any negative comments ! I also don't get to hear "It's great to hear your voice finally" (but sarcasm I can live without)

I don't blame you!! It's not really worth the effort anyway....When your singing to some woman who care's about you about as much as flea dirt and could really care less!! It finally takes it toll on you after a while. As soon as some other guy comes along there off running after him..... LMAO
Personally I would like to hear your singing because I feel your for the most part like me in the fact that your picky...very picky....So truth be known....I would bet you probably sing fairly well.
your kinda like Tony I bet.....you can sing but don't think you can, but there are people out there that like your singing.
There are those who like to hear me sing, but I just don't because I have run out of reasons to keep doing it. :(
The world is most likely better off anyway without my singing. LMAO

Since this isn't a publically viewable forum visible to those outside of KS.. Here goes my true feelings about MY submitting on KS.. Keep in mind, this is how *I* see Singers Showcase. This is MY fact. Not your own. But to those who tend to get wrapped up in things (as many in SS do), and I know I often do SS is NOT a smart place to hang.. I'd never submit over there !
NO WAY, I'm an instrumentalist that doesn't have the greatest voice. Certainly nothing I'll perform with. That'd be foolish. To me music is only "art" if it's done well, and similarly I feel unless it's polished, and VERY good, it shouldn't be on display for the world to see. To me SS isn't Karaoke, it's YOU performing as lead singer that's being showcased, or you as a singer. The world does judge, and I DO care what others think. It's how I was raised, and I don't wish to change how I feel in this particular area. I take too much pride when and if I perform, If I want something "Showcased" I damn well better do it well IMO..I had a strict performing arts upbringing. For practicing you had recitals, workshops, playing for friends, playing at home and listening yourself.. NOT public performance, that I believe is for the pro's.
JMHO..
Also, I feel Singer's Showcase is a hostile audience. Not all are hostile judgemental and harsh, but I don't like the level of dishonesty, and backstabbing/side comments I see. I see the ranks given, and I KNOW what some of these people giving 9's and 10's honestly think. I wish NO part of that place, It's not even easy to be honest when commenting without offending another person listening let alone performing ! I don't want to be a part of a place where all people wish to do is throw boquets of flowers back and forth. I get sick of fantasy worlds. If there's a ranking system, and a Critique category, to me that alone means SOME level of honesty should at least be allowed to exist freely, but that's discouraged in Singer's Showcase. Give a person in SS a "6" rank (even though they DO want honesty, and THEY might be able to handle it) you are branded as satan. Even though most know and agree the person sucks at singing. To me this is wrong.
What people say to one-another, and think to themselves are VERY different. This is an example of why I feel SS is a hostile audience..
FACT:
At best I am a 3-4 rank singer, sometimes as high as a 6, not a horrid backing vocalist for types of music, but certainly no soloist. If an audience can't honestly tell me what I already know.. "You shouldn't really have performed sounding like that", I have to be smart enough to know that myself. I'm not being modest, I REALLY can't sing well to my ear that is, and musicians don't want me singing in real for this reason. I'm not a singer. Out've courtesy I'll sometimes get the 3rd microphone. Either that or desparation.
From my own perspective:
We also know how competitive SS is, even among the dishonesty people want to believe fluff, and I believe they wish to believe lies. How many that are still on SS are there to JUST share their music and not receive rank, or kudos, how many don't care about how many comment on their submission ? How many DO NOT worry about what others think ? Honestly ? Less than 1/2 ? Yes, MUCH less.. (and as I stated, this is FINE, however most are being lied to). How many are TOTALLY individual in SS and don't get wrapped up with any group affiliation, or political BS ? I recognise some do not involve themselves, but SS has it's established cliques, It's not an audience of "live strangers" listening to a performer. THere's alot of BS that goes on behind the scene, so add in politics..what this gets down to is..
How many in SS are free of "ego" ? I know I'm not, but I don't wish to get caught up in it where my music is involved, or put myself thru scrutiny. How many don't get caught up in the greed aspects of SS ? It's competition, and it's dishonest exchange, political, etc, a VERY nasty combo IMO. How many giving 9's and 10's are saying to their friends in PM... "I gave _____ a 9 or 10 because their performance was so good, it floored me ?" (To me, those are the only conditions you ever give a 9 or 10) Now I know some disagree, but if the rank number isn't a lie, usually the comment left isn't honest. Watching what goes on in Singer's Showcase is like watching sunday school kids scurrying around trying to earn silver and gold stars, It's like watching romper-room, and sunday school "everybody wants a star" babyishness... Sorry, it's exactly how I see what's going on there.. A playground for big children.
Why I feel it's hostile in a nutshell:
Nothing scares me more than a large dishonest audience that can and will fling something you do poorly in your face at any given time (even if it's a very small percentage that will do this, with a live audience you seldom have such a problem) once you submit something in SS, it's out.. IMO.. Better be a VERY good vehicle representing your ability in an area too.. again JMO.. I'll be damned if I'm going to let my cruddy singing out into a venue where more than a few of my trusted friends can hear it, and be candid with me, telling me, "Nah, glad your having fun, but you're no singer", the fact that I see people that can't sing half as good as I can on SS getting 30 consecutive 9 ranks scares the S*it out've me. That's way too dishonest a venue for me.
The fact that those that really want candor, and true help can bank on NEVER getting
something even close to (when subbing in the "C" category)
"Although I know how much you aspire to sing this particular type of ballad, I think you are having a lot of trouble with this song. It's a difficult song for even those with much more singing experience. You might consider rather than this song, trying to sing _____. The reason I suggest this is because I believe it's more suited for your vocal range, and vocal timbre. Assuming you were trying to innovate here, and make this song your own, that might be a different story, but I don't believe you were trying to do that. It sounds as though you were trying to nail a cover. I noticed you were having problems with timing, song dynamics, cadence, but you do have a decent concept of the style you like.. I think an easier type ballad for you now would be_____, In these particular songs I believe you'd be straining less, and although it's obvious you like Journey, what I believe you think you are singing, and what you are sounding like singing aren't one in the same yet, but in time I'm sure you will be able to expand your skill, I know you requested a rank, but I don't feel a rank would be at all beneficial to you at present, it serves no purpose, PM me with any questions"
If nobody in SS is free to leave this type comment to a person subbing in the "C" category (without fearing reprisal), there's something VERY wrong.
That being said. I feel for the relatively smaller group that REALLY is just about singing for fun, not overly concerned with rank or critique, can keep perspective even when compulsively submitting day after day, and doesn't take singing, or themselves too seriously, SS when perceived as such, can be fun. I'm not that type of person though. I suspect most are not.
Yes. My closest friends are the very ones that often tell me "you really sucked buddy ! Your piano playing sounded so choppy and rusty stick to guitar. EIther that or start working alot harder because few would call what you just did being a pianist"... It's how musicians often interact.. No offense taken either ! MANY out there listening are harsh, MANY ARE SIMON ! I'd rather my friends tell me when there's a problem. I DO NOT want to hear lies encouraging me via white lies to make a fool of myself.
Alot are excellent vocalists too. Too bad the rank and critique stuff exists at all. It'd be so much nicer IMO if it could just be kept light and friendly without anybody feeling they need to "rank". When you make something into a competition, it kills the fun in this setting.
