As I’ve said before, I started singing several months after joining this forum.  When I first started singing I sounded just like an Elvis wannabe.  It wasn’t that I wanted to sound like him - it was just my voice.  However, after singing four hours a night every Friday and Saturday and sometimes on Sunday my voice has changed drastically.  I’m not sure what I sound like now.

My question is, how many of you have experienced the same change?

I usually try to force my voice to change because I'm always trying some difficult song....rock mostly. So, I'm really all over the place usually, and most of it doesn't work out for me!! LMAO

Nah, it's just that my odds of accomplishing some songs are about as ridiculous as the odds in Powerball.......not everyone's a winner. LMAO

It might just be a matter of practice, practice, practice. You are probably controlling your voice better now.

I didn't notice it when I started singing, but I can sure tell now when I go for too long without singing. My range decreases, too. Can't hit those high, squeaky ones anymore.

The biggest thing I've noticed is I am more comfortable, so I take more chances. I'm not as afraid to make a mistake by singing out of the box.

The first time I sang in public was in a 2 room school house in 1946.. It was Cool Water by the Sons Of the Pioneers Since that time I have sang all over the world Not as a pro for an old man in France with a violin gave me a music lessonn and I dont believe in charging for a god given talent And I am good... I can enerjize any audience with any genre.. No brag just fact...

When one wants to be somethiong he imitates the pros.. At some some point the role playing stops and you are one!!! For months at a time I would sing songs of different genres and esp those I hadnt heard before. When I first started doing karaoke I could imitate Hank Snow & the other Hank to a tee but as I developed (karaoke developed my abilities) I really have to concentrate to imitate anybody.. But with karaoke experience I can do anything from rap to cry Johnny Raye style...

Do different genres and songs you completely slaughter... And one day you have a style all your own..  At least some people do Some imitate and their only contribution at a show is a few songs ... But it is one of the most enjoyable and soul lifting things in life Go with it .. If I had it to do over again I would be dead now because I would have been a diehard musician...Always remember one thing sing from the heart...  The progress of any singer fascinates the hell out of me and it is one of the most enjoyable things in life..

Jackson when I started singing I was the ballad queen. I am sitting here typing and not able to talk cos of the unballad stuff I did at last nites gig.  As Babs said its a confidence thang. For me it was the confidence to go deep instead of pretty....does that make sense? Maybe I mean sing with my diaphram instead of my throat.
What it means for me is....so long as a song is in my range and I like it then I sing it...it dont matter if its a guys song it dont matter the genre, its what is right for the night and the audience on that night.
5 hours with 1 break, it was a long night but it was worth it

For some reason unbeknownst to me I can recored with adequate software and tailor it it for car cd players or home stereos but when I play it back on computer speakers or convert  to mp3 it sound like crap... And I am one that cant sing in a recording studio I need an audience the bigger the better.. If I could get my buddy to record at a real show then maybe.....
