Michael,  I thought brine shrimp only lived at best for a few days ?   Although I've heard of people buying those "Biospheres" for rediculous sums of money, and having their pet (staying alive in its balanced ecosystem) survive around that long.  Thing is, are those brine shrimp in fresh water ? I've never seen an actual biosphere. I've just heard those things called "My pet shrimp".. or are those just some form of swampwater bacterial microbe ? LOL    Not sure.

OK,  let me change Sea Monkey life expectancy to "Bot fly" lifespan.  <Gosh, I hope noone in here had one of those as a pet that outlived their dog>

Actually Steven, when breeding tropical fish I've fed the fry (baby fish) live baby brine shrimp and they actually can live up to three months or so being fed brewer's yeast of all things.  They are attracted to light--I forget what that's called in scientific terms, but it makes catching them in the little brine shrimp net much easier by holding a flashlight up to the glass container they are in.

Salt of fresh water aquaria was a HUGE childhood hobby of mine.  I used brine for the young cichlids and salt water trops. btw, the scientific term you are looking for is "photoactic". Most living critters are photoactic, Sea-Monkeys just more-so. I forgot how many critters are truly (metabolically) nocturnal.
