U want world-class blues you come up to Portland. Waterfront Blues Festival, smaller festivals all over the place and lots and losts of special blues events throughout the year. Live blues 7-nights a week with new blues venues popping up almost monthly.

As to loaning equipment--one word--NO!

If they need to use something they can go to any musician store and RENT the item they need.

Yeah, Wednesday used to be jam night. Any blues players could come in and setup and take turns. The problem was no one came and it was the same 3 people all the time. A girl who could not sing, a guy who played keyboard to his computerized musis and drum beat, and a harmonica player. To say the least - it was horrible.

But you live in the Chicago area !   That's supposed to be an excellent blues location

You're right Kappy. Chicago is a blues haven, but the owner went about it all wrong. He should have advertised it and supplied a PA system.
He was at the mercy of the one guy who brought his in and he was not a true blues musician by any means. The only way you'd know it was supposed to be a blues jam night is if he told you. No signs, no newspaper ads. and you couldn't tell by listening to the 3 people who actually came in and performed. They sounded more like a bad high school talent show performance.

Also one word.......NO

I got asked to do something like just do a gig once a week and leave my equipment for others to use in the mean time.  I was all...ummmmmmm, I don't freakin' think so!  If that's what you want as a bar owner..why not invest in a house system.  I don't get that.  Heck it bothers me when I have someone helping load or something and they have NO respect for the equipment because it's not theirs.   One time I got this, "it's only a plug...who cares if the corner is broke off!"  This was just after he wasn't paying attention and jerked it out, I about lost my mind...MrD

I don't want anyone "helping" me.    First of all it's usually a really big guy and he grabs the smallest item.    Like that load was going to help me. LMAO
At the end of the night..... I don't need drunk people carrying my stuff.     If you want me to leave my stuff, why not just pay me to do the job.     Daaaaa

I have a set way that I load and unload equipment....there's a rythm to it and I can go much faster if I do it myself as opposed to having help. In fact if I have help it throws my rythm off so bad sometimes I forget certian steps and then end up leaving something behind. So I prefer not to have help.

The only exception to this is when I do yacht clubs and the boat ramps are long and sometimes steep. I will pack everything into dock carts and then the club members usually assist me in getting my equipment up to the parking lot.

Other than that I say....thanks so much for asking but I have a system for breakdown and it goes much faster if I do it myself.

I too find that it slows me down if someone tries to help.  Takes longer to tell them what to do then if I do it myself.  This is usually the case for new places.

Where I am at right now, I am fortunate that there are a couple of workers and regulars at the club who have helped me enough by now that they know how the equipment is put into my van.

I still do ALL the tear down and "sealing up."  (cords away and covers put back on the speakers and sub, etc.)  Then I allow them to put it in the van.

People are always sweet to offer their help. The only thing I don't mind them helping me with is getting the speakers down and maybe helping carry the heavy equipment to the car. I also have a certain way I like things and can move faster if i do it myself. It bugs me when people want to wrap my chords. I usually end up redoing it.

I can get very anal about how I want things positioned. Especially my monkeys  LMAO
Most of my monkeys are already set out, but a few of them I place out when I get to the show. I'm such a girl.

LOL  That's so funny that I ran into this about the "helping at the end of the night".

I was just at karaoke last Fri. night in PA.(my favorite kj diva), and the show ends at 1:45am and they expect the kj to be loaded and gone by 2am.
There were like 6 people (including myself) grabbing stuff and heading for the door. LOL
The muscle boyfriend usually grabs the pedestal speakers in a hurry, and others start grabbing and unhooking cords and whatever. It's usually a bunch of guys who are sweet for the kj who do this......I feel like an idiot now. LMAO

I do wrap a helluva cord though. LMAO

If the bar owner wants the speakers mounted then maybe he should provide you with compensation for the speakers so that he would then own them himself... No body shpuld ever use your equipment

He offered to buy my equipment once. No way ! If he wants his own sound system he can invest in one. My equipment is my equipment.

As is, things are going pretty well with the whole set up. For NYE I had to share space with one of the bands. We both used our own equipment - no problem.
