I've got this nasty cold and cough right now. Has anybody found any over the counter or natural remedies that REALLY work -- at least for you? This isn't spam either! LOL

Drea mentioned one to me that she uses, I will get her to find this thread when she gets a chance. I can't remember the name but she swears by it.

I use Airborne. It's got a lot of helpful goodies in it.

My girlfriend is hooked on that "Airborne" natural supplement, but it's more of a OTC preventive measure instead of a treatment. She "forces"LOL me to take it, and we ain't been sick yet (knocking on wood). Not that it's the whole reason we've not been sick, but it doesn't seem to hurt.
**Just saw that Chuck uses it too..... I feel more validated!

After seeing all those ads for Zicam, I did give that a try. Sure didn't help me any! I've used regular zinc lozenges a long time ago and they seemed to help. I should have just stuck with those. It's too late now because zinc and Zicam works best when taken at the very start of a cold.

I use Echinacea and Golden Seal root drops. The moment I feel something lurking I get stuck into them. The man behind the counter suggested that I only use them when I feel something about to come on, and to treble the recommended dose.
I have had huge sucess with this...except last year I kinda propped myself up with it so often I think my body got used to it and I ended up with 2 colds but they were the first in bout 3 years
The other thing I did recently when my husband came home from Perth with a cold was to rub vicks on the soles of his feet at bedtime.

well..... for coughs I like Alpine gum..... especially if it's a really tight, dry cough.... it loosens everything up nicely... it's good for the sinuses too.
I used to really like Nyquil and Dayquil, but lately they just seem to MOVE the cold. y'know... if it starts in your head, you take it, then it moves to your chest, or vice versa...
I still swear by Gramma's tried n true: Lots Orange juice and water.... and good ole chicken noodle soup (in a mug! There's somethin about it bein' in a mug that's so much more comforting)

before i was so rudely interrupted by mother nature i was posting that ephedrine is great for breaking up all the junk that collects in your chest during and after a cold. for allergies i use an over the counter medicine called actifed.

Odie - I am sorry to hear you've got the bug. I've tried everything under the sun when I get sick. It always seems what ever I get lasts at least 7 days no matter what.
Using things to help mask the symptoms is probably your best bet. I like that throat coat tea the best.

You are supposed to take it before going out into crowds or when feeling the hint of the onset of a cold. It seems to work pretty well, although I think it's also what ever you believe in strongly, is going to work. Healing powers of the mind are stronger than one thinks!

I have to agree with you there... last year I had bronchitis which stretched into 2 months, this year I was determined it wasn't going to mess up my whole winter so I started slamming back vitamin c pills and orange juice along with my antibiotics. I'm not totally convinced it wasn't my own stubbornness that got me past it so quickly.

I use Mucinex, which is actually guafasin...really clears up the gunk. Liberal sprays of saline upside the nose works well too.

Don't talk to me about sick..... I got to spend the last couple days with my ENTIRE family (mother, father, daughter, husband)... and a LOT of vomiting, and diarrhea.... Sky got sick first... the poor kid must have vomited 50 times in one night... then, bang, the NIGHT before we wanted to drive home to quebec, we were ALL in the bathroom throwing up... (AND, my parents only have ONE bathroom!) I got MY count up to 26, and justy was 15-20.... apparently, some Norwalk virus thing.... we are in a hotel NOW, and we ALL still feel terrible, and I had to stop twice on the way to chuck my guts out the door... (we didn't end up making the whole 14 hour drive today... only made it about 6 hours).... The thing is... The EXACT same thing happened to us LAST month...... what a miserable sick winter so far:(
Anyways, I am off to puke once again:) Hope my little post was wonderful to read:) I feel the urge to rub my vomit and fece all over the screen and hope you all catch it TOO! Mua hahaha.
buh bye.

A nice hot spiced rum. Come to the bar tonight and I'll buy ya one:)
Nah, just kidding. (about the bar, I'm not going)
If I had an answer for this question, I would not have just spent most of the day in bed. (alone, i might add)
This flu that's circulating here is VICIOUS.... Just when you think it's gone, a new little symptom crops up. Yesterday, I was finally able to eat :dancin: .... I woke up pukin' again this morning. (and hell no, i'm not pregnant.... atleast i hope) :D
I've had a sore throat, congestion, dizziness, talking-without-knowing-what-i'm-saying-in-karaoke-forums, (yes, that's an illness), and headache- bad ones, puking, more puking, weakness, tingly hands and feet.
Hell, maybe I had a stroke or something instead of the flu. Christ, and here I'm taking Sudafed & Benadryl:)
And Odie, if you're around...... go check your dang email, I'm waiting on an opinion:)
