Lonman, great idea! It does make sense, especially using it as a tool for informing them of upcoming events, specials etc. I'll have to look into it. I'm no web guru, but will check it out. If it took off, it would be no problem to advertise the bars website on the tables, walls, etc. Take pics of the regulars first and put them up, then slowly add everyone that shows interest. Coming up on midnights at my work, plenty of time to investigate.
Thanks,

I would go with putting them up on the website (Thumbnails with links to FUILL SIZE image).
Also, iif you have the equipment and want to do it, I would charge only $2 per pic, why go EXPENSIVE, you want them to buy it. I would also set up a tmeplate that would put your logo/contactinfo on the pic too, then it is a form of advertising. $1-2 per pic surely will cover the ost of ink/paper. THere are many people that ar not internt/vcomputer savy and would have NO CLUE on how to download/print a pic.

Personally I would not charge anything. I would give them out free or post them.
I run my show by myself, so it would be hard to mangage running karaoke, taking pictures, printing and packaging them, and collecting money for them.
Now if I was posting them on a website that would be different. I would just have to take a pic with my digital camera then post them when I got home.

Thanks everybody for the input. Lonman has a great idea, it could also drum up business by keeping in more of a constant touch w/patrons.
twansenne's idea of a template for permanent recognition is a winning idea too.
That may require special preprinted paper or something of that nature, but it can be done.
Thanks everyone!

Nothing special, just some layering. Just create the template/border with whatever you want on just about ANY cheap pic editing software, with the center part being "clear". Then import the pic of the singers into the software, and put it under the template/border.
THink of it like a mat for a picture frame, you put the mat on top of the picture. THe mat would be your logo/info

If you were in an exotic tourist trap, then the picture thing might take off. I do not see it as being a major draw.

It won't be a major draw, but it is one of the many things that will help improve and set my show apart from the prior KJ shows. We just had a customer propose to his fiance last night right there on the KJ floor w/the mic in hand. I had to leave at 10:00 pm, (work my job @ 11:00pm) but the wife filled in and she said they loved it!
The wife said they did'nt want to stop singing at close. I'm sure they would've wanted a pic for their memories!
What, no disparaging remarks BD?!? I'm surprised
Or maybe you got lucky...
Thanks everybody,

It is just another form of advertising. He can print the pics at the bar, with logo and stuff, or post it to a website. And if ya charge for printing the pics, say $2, you are not out any money.
BD, perhaps you can actually answer a question for once, instead of posting your usual doom and gloom comments.

I'm reading between the lines and I can see a lot more than meets the eye. Quality karaoke will make all the money you want. Gimmicks usually backfire. If I was going to propose to someone in a karaoke bar, I would have made sure someone of my friends or family was there with a camera/video camera to record the event so I could replay it at the divorce party. I wouldn't have been depending on the bar owner to be Johnny-On-The-Spot with flood lights, director and a production crew. Think about it. It's downtown Hicksville, not Reno, Jamaica, Hawaii, Cancun, once in a lifetime dream vacation spot of the world, we need to have a picture of every moment captured for posterity. Every cell phone in the world now can do pictures and steaming video.....What's all the excitement?
I have all the answers, we just need people that can use (know what to do with) the information.

Here is what I do and you can use it or not... I collect email adressess of singers that want to give them. At the end of the shows, usually a day or two later my son takes all the pictures that were taken for the particular show and emails them to everyone on my Karaoke email list.. This can be provided for free and my customers have liked it very much.. They can print what ever pictures they want.

lostcowboy1966 - good idea there, it just takes time and effort to implement. I do have freeshare software for the pics. May use that in the future, advertise with a line on tabletop settings etc. Send out pics weekly of the current singing performances. to regulars of bar. Could inspire more participation. I would assume permition of promotiional mailers would be a prerequesite for the e-mail address. Their participation could be optional or just a periodic event.
Thanks, good ideas are permeating...

STOP>>>> you could be running into a big legal problem. You need to have signed model release forms or be prepared for a big law suit. One example... What if you take a picture of a couple that are married to different people and you plaster it all over the world wide web. The name of your bar will be changed and you won't have the keys. Think I'm wrong.... go ahead and do it... BAD BAD BAD idea. Talk to a good lawyer before you start doing it. Really, why don't you just give quality karaoke a chance? Forget the gimmicks.

Bigdog,
I think the original post was referring to the person singing. Since you don't use a stage and the people just sing from where they sit, I can see what he is wanting to do would be a problem in your venue. But if the picture is at the singers request and they have an area or a stage like any place I've ever been does, then there shouldn't be a problem.

Been doing it for 10 years, no problems - before that we had pics printed & kept them all in a couple large photo albums that would get passed around nightly at the club. It's stated in my books & on signs in the bar, that pictures taken in the bar may be used on our websites. Not worried about it, it's pretty common practice - if someone asks to have a pic removed, I remove it. Only had 1 in the 10 years i've had my site & that was because they had a better picture & asked me to change it for them.
Quality karaoke, free pics, props available, stage, lights, dance floor - all under 1 roof & it works!

There is a difference between being lucky and stupid. You have been lucky but in today's world with a lawyer hanging out in every corner karaoke bar, I would be extremely careful and I would personally not do it.
Reread his latest posts, now everyone is telling him to put them on the web. Not without a signed release form. It's just like liability insurance. Do I or don't I???? Do you feel lucky punk??? Well do ya...?
It only takes one to wipe you out forever.....You could also be putting the bar owner in jeapardy. Because when the law suits start flying they name everyone. I wouldn't doubt if the named all of the beer companies too. The more money.... the better. Even settling out of court will cost a bundle.
I'm coming to all of your gigs....... please post my picture all around the world ....without my autograph.....PLEASE   :dancin:

Provided there are no derogatory comments captioned on the photo or anything ridiculing or pointing out flaws, there is nothing illegal about it! Just posting a photo is fine. Again, if someone asks to have a photo removed, I would do it.

The karaoke Bar that we go to....The bar staff will walk up to your table and ask:
(1) Would you like to have your picture taken?? See...It will be inserted into this keychain with our logo on it.....It only cost $7
(2) Its a tourist area and it goes over just fine, some people buy it, some don't.
It looks to me like Big dog is a very paranoid person who isn't sure about real life legal issues!!!!! Bigdog look at all the pictures that are taken of movie stars and other famous people all the time and these pictures are put in star magazine and national inquire magazine....and the famous mega Rich stars don't like it not one bit!!!
Some don't mind...But others hate it!!!!
Do they sue and win big law suits?? Nope they sure don't!!!! LMAO
If you are so paranoid about someone taking your picture because you are with someone other than your wife then your in trouble....Not the person taking the picture!!!!
If your wife hired me to have you watched due to suspicious activity such as you being with other women...then do you think you can sue me and my detectives ?? For catching you with someone, or doing something you should not be doing??
What would happen is those pictures would be submitted in court as evidence and you would be taken to the cleaners!!! That is funny!!!! LMAO
What country do you live in??? LMAO LMAO LMAO

No kidding. Man, this guy really does talk out of his (@$%!), doesn't he? Model release forms for snapshots in a public place. That is priceless.
I wonder if Britney signed a model release form for those recent pictures of her C-Section scar (among other things) up her skirt?

The stars love the publicity. They don't like the naked ones.
PI's aren't posting the compromising pictures on the W.W.W. If you want to take the chance....It ain't me getting sued. So go ahead.
It only takes one nut case to sue......lose everything.....
Please post my picture without a release form. I could use a few million. :O
Topics like this should be in the kJ section only. Gives them too many bad ideas...
