A KJ friend new to the business asked if I knew of a "good" head-worn wireless mike (so her hads are free to work the system etc).
Any suggestions?  (I'm sure price is an issue for her)

does she want to just announce with it, or does she want to sing as well?

If it's both then Crown makes some nice headsets. Your looking at $250 to $500

My experience is that if you find most headsets are designed for announcing only and sound muffled or tinny for singing. To get something that sounds good for singing you have to pay the price.

Did you tell her that no one in the history of entertainment has ever failed to look like a complete and utter toolbox sandwich while wearing a headset microphone?

I would recommend she look into a lecturn microphone. These mics plug into one of your mic inputs but is then like 1.5 feet of flexible metal that you can twist and turn in any direction you want to position the microphone right above your mixer for hands-free use.

Some mixers even have an input on top of the mixer for this type of mic.

Plus, they only cost like $50-350 AND you don't automatically look stupid using it!!

, one of my competiors uses a headset, big giant tool!!!!  And it is not even a decent one, I think it is a rat shack cheapie.
Then there is one of his "followers" that insist she gets to use the headset when she sings.  She prances around the bar like she is trying out for AI/Nashville Star.  I bout peed my pants from laughing when I first saw it.
I'll have to see if I can get some video of it sometime.

Not to discourage the OP, but yeah, get a lecturn or lapel mic instead of a headset.

I love my headset! I peiced it together myself. I use a Samson bodypack and reciever, and an AudioTechnia mic. Figure out those connections.....

Mine is the boom style mic, and it lets me use both hands, roam around the bar, and get the crowd going. I do not usually sing on it, as I keep the echo low on it to announce, but it also makes it easier to come in to secretly 'help' singers.

And if anyone makes fun of it I tell them it is the Garth Brooks model, not the Brittney Spears one............

, that is a good one.  I guess, for my competior, it has more to being a tool in the first place.  THe Headset is just icing on the cake.
