The password to get into the club was obviously a "number" .....

when the doorman said six ....... the member replied with a larger number --> TWELVE ...  that when spelled out had six letters in in.

when the doorman said three ... the member replied with larger number -->SIX ... that that when spelled out had three letters in it.

So ...... when the doorman said FIVE  ... either SEVEN or EIGHT would have been gotten the guest in the door, because they are both larger than five and when spelled out have 5 letters.

You are right DBK .... It is not possible to guess only three fruits correctly: the fourth fruit is then correct too! So nobody has guessed three fruits correctly and 123-43-39-31 = 10 people have guessed four fruits correctly.  

As for the one you posted..... I'm gonna say three ???  ....

With only two colors .... if you take three out the odds are that 2:3 will be matching.  Just a guess tho!
