Best method I've found yet first requires loosening the caked wax from the sides of the ear canal.  

Although hydrogen peroxide might work, it can also eat away necessary bacteria in the cilia of the eardrum, and certain peoples necessary bacteria/ accumulated debris further down the canal (aka brains).

Rather than using Hydrogen peroxide, putting KY gel on the end of an M-80 and gently inserting it into the ear canal (you don't want to go in too far or you might injure yourself, also don't use vaseline because non-water soluable lubes can lead to infection), the center fuse still must show
