I recently purchased  a VocoPro Gig-Master 180 Watt multi-formatted all in one karaoke system. The Gig-Master has two XLR audio outputs for external speakers. VocoPro makes an external speaker, SV-500 which is 250 Watt max and 120 Watt RMS output. I like the looks and specs on these speakers but they are rather pricey. Although I probably should keep with the VocoPro brand for all accessories I was wondering if anyone could recommend alternative speakers.

Also, keeping in mind the Gig-Master ia a 180 Watt system, Im assuming thats 90 Watts per side? What wattage should I be concerned with (RMS or Max) when I decide which speaker to buy?

Singtronic makes a KS-550 which is 550 Watt max and 150 Watt normal. They come with speaker stands and free shipping for $299.00. Can anyone give me information on these?

Thank-you

Dave Kroll (newbie KJ)

I am 99.99% surethat the 2 XLR outs for external speakers ar probably line level outputs.  You will need an AMP and SPEAKERS, or Powered Speakers if you want to add speakers to the system.

When you do decide on speakers, don't worry about sticking with the VocoPro brand.  Rember most audio equipment that is branded "karaoke use" is usually not of the greatest of quality.

Not being snotty, but if you really want to add external speakers, you may want to return the GigMaster, and purchase a dedicated PA system, and a CDG player.  For what you are going to spend "upgrading" the Gigmaster plus with what you already spent on it, you can get a very good PA system, and CDG player.

Just read your post in the newbie intro, and I feel that if you were getting a Gigmaster in hopes of dong small private parties, you did make a $500 mistake.
Just my opinion.  Sorry

Seriously if you can get you monsy back DO IT, and get a PA like this BEHRINGER PACKAGE  With that package, and a CDG player you will get a system much better than the Gigmaster if you are going to be doing parties.

BUt if you are set on the GigMaster, just let us know, and someone is sure to point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the input, but unfortunately, Im stuck with the item, NO REFUNDS.

VocoPro lists some external speaker applications without an additional amp (ie, the SV-500). The Gig-Master does have a external speaker switch, which disables the internal speakers in the cabinet, so is it possible the XLR Speaker Out's will be powered by the systems amp or would I definately need powered cabs?

But..............I'm back to part two of my original question, will the Singtronic KS-550 work well with the internal 180 watt amp?

Additionally, what are some common pitfalls with the Gig-Master and why is it such a waste of money? What problems should I be looking for or even better trying to prevent?

David

The XLR outputs are a balanced 'line' out in which you would need a separate amp & speakers or powered speakers.  It supposedly has a speaker out jack to hook non-powered external speakers up to it bypassing the internal amp.  Being it says 180 watts, it's probably rated at around 90 watts per channel.  Honestly for what you spent, you could have got a pretty good semi-pro system that would knock that out of the water without having to spend extra to get external speakers to make it sound good.  VP products - while great in concept - are generally overpriced & under quality!

The siwtch does what it says, it disables the internal speakers.    You will need and amp and speakers, or powered speakers to add to the gigmaster

Even if it was using the interanl amp, which it is not, that would not be enough power.

Lonman answered that for you
