Hey Girls.  What's the best way to wash a hairbrush without breaking the bristles off ?  Dishwasher after getting excess hair out ?  Bathtub doesn't work.

Hey why not just swish it around in the bowl for a few minutes, hit the flush and let the swirling action take care of the rest. ;)

If running it under the bathtub faucet doesn't get that white gunk off the teeth of the brush, and briskly shaking it around in a tub of warm water doesn't get that white stuff off not sure the toilet will be any better  LOL ...  Unless I dump some Lye in there I suppose.  I figured the girls would know this because hair preps and sprays leave a residue on brushes too... Sometimes a not so easy to remove from bristles type residue... I figure in my particular case the Minoxydil I use powders the brush...But this crud doesn't come off the brush easy, and it's annoying when it flakes INTO my hair from the brush... At 8 bucks and more a brush I figured it's not time to trash them when they need cleaning..

Yes,  I'm serious...  As to whether or not asking this question in here was goofy or not, well that's a different aspect LOL    I was going to ask my mom this question tonight when I called her.... But yeah,  I don't know the answer to this..  I know some girls in a different chat venue were talking about running their toothbrush thru the dishwasher periodically.

Actually I take two brushes and rub them together bristle against bristle which gets rid of most of the residue that you speak off. Yeah I know you wanted advice from that gals, but you can learn a thing or two from a guy who still has a foot and a half long ponytail. ;)

LMAO  LMAO  LMAO  LMAO  LMAO

I do like Vicki....Buy a New one  LMAO

Steven don't be mad at me...but this was funny, my sides hurt!! LMAO

James & kappy....you two could make money as comedians for real  :hi5:

The reason I thought it so funny....two weeks ago I was trying to clean mine, soaked it in a glass of rubbing alcohol for a few hours without success. The wife said...Honey throw it away and I'll buy you a new one!!!  :D

I guess you could soak it in that stuff the barber uses, but probably cheaper to just buy a new one. Just my :2cents:

LMAO Vicki I was thinking the same thing - Just buy a new one !

Guys are so funny. They will keep a comb as long as it has 3 teeth left on it.
They will find away to use all the little soaps that are left, but can't be used alone because they are to small. They will reuse a towel until it can stand by itself in a corner.  LMAO

LOL James.

Yes,  this was meant to kill two bird with one stone (so-to-speak).  It was certainly meant to be humorous,  but it's ALSO serious.   Hey...  Why not ?   We can't all know everything, right ?  But in asking this in here, I did intend to crack a few up...

I have tried rubbing two brushes together..  It seems to work about the best for loosening up stuff on the brush somewhat  (short've wetting the things and trying to run a towel side thru the bristles)... Problem is,  the bristles break off really easily..  Maybe it is time to purchase new brushes..  Thing is,  I figured there was an easy way to clean them... Don't you females have the same probs with hairsprays and hair stuff you use ?  It often leaves a white film on the brush pads (and bristles) that doesn't come off easily?  Even when the brushes are relatively new. Certain hairpreps aren't that water-soluble.  They don't come off that easy. Rogaine is one of those type things.  I can have a brush for a week, and it needs cleaning.  That's too soon to throw the things away.

ANyway,  Maybe cheapo kappy will spend some money on some brushes...Sheesh,  I just bought these things 6 months to a year ago anyway.  How long are GOOD quality brushes supposed to last ?  They aren't THAT cheap to buy. This isn't a case of old brushes that one would think need replacement.  As I stated they need to be cleaned with something other than standard warm soapy water.

Stay tuned tomorrow when we discuss ways of stretching the amount of time you can get out've a roll of toilet paper !

 Hi Kappy

Ok...so you ARE being serious...hehe LOL

Well...I don't use ANYTHING in my hair anymore as far as styling products go since most contain alcohol...which makes my curly hair even more prone to frizz than it already is...  So I don't get much of any gunk on my brush at all anymore!  :D

But back when I used to, I would soak my brushes in scalding hot water with a little dish soap in it...usually for about 15 minutes or so.  Then I would put a little MORE dish soap on and give 'em the ol bristle to bristle scrub...rinse 'em off with more hot water...and done!  :D

The brush I currently use is the shiz-nit...woooohoooooo I love it!  It's a vented Sauve brand brush with widely spaced plastic bristles...it's all molded plastic except for the cushy rubber grip..hehe...so obviously not expensive.  I probably paid a couple of bucks for it.  But that thing is sooooooo easy to clean and I have not had a single bristle break off.  I have had it for AT LEAST a year and it still looks dang near brand new. :dancin:

Listen to me raving on about hair brushes... LMAO ...could I please borrow a life??  :drunk:

LOL

Thank you !   This is exactly the type answer I'm looking for.  Can plastic brushes with plastic bristles handle "Scalding hot" ?  I figured that'd melt the brush.  That would likely work however -and yes,  products with alcohol, and oils ARE the problem here.  They leave a stubborn residue that doesn't often come off with standard luke warm water and some soap...

Is there a song entitled:

"I'm sick of white crud brushing into my hair and don't want to buy new brushes" yet ?

If not,  I might compose one... cuz I've been humming the tune for a long time.

LOL
