I've noticed at my shows lately folks are singing the old headbanging  bands a little more.  don't know the reason but i had to go out and get a judas priest disc, of course!  i couldn't be happier!  i was a huge priest fan back in the day before they went sorta techno with turbo lover.  anyway, i got the sound choice disc and of course i wan't disappointed!  the renditions are almost perfect and the backup is amazing!  just ghouth i'd let y'all know that if you're looking of r great j-p disc, sound choice #2506 is great!

you know a disc is great when you'll sit and listen to the karaoke version of the disc without singing to it.....just listening to the background!  (i'm doing that right now, even though i have all the songs in my itunes)

And a pair of Vise Grips!!!!!

Damn, there are actually JP fans still around, I thought I was the only one.

Anyone one elses get into Rob Halfords's solo days (FIGHT) after JP split up for a while?  Saw Fight in concert at a small 1000 person venue, and I was front row!!!  How cool seeing him sing!

Never did really get into Ripper Owens, don't know why.  He was good, but not as good as Rob.  But to be a JP tribute band singer one day, and fronting JP the next....HOW COOL!!!!!

ANd the Glenn Tipton solo album, "Baptism of Fire"!!!!!  Whish I could get that version of "Paint It Black" for karaoke.

Ahhh, the good ole days, when a metal sinnger actuall could SING!  What a novel idea.

Huge Priest fan, have met the boys on several occasions, in fact it was Priest who introduced me to Glenn Hughes, who had been in Trapeze with then Priest drummer Dave Holland. Trapeze was in talks about doing a small reunion tour and Glenn was living in Atlanta where he had relocated after working on the Black Sabbath album Seventh Star.
Got to meet Rob when he was in Fight as well. I was really disappointed with the last live DVD that Priest put out. I'm afraid Rob's voice has seen better days.

A bit of trivia, Rob actually did a couple of the Sabbath shows when Glenn bailed, but they were god awful. In the video I saw, Rob doesn't really know the songs and screwed them up royally. Most of the show is Tony trying to cue Rob on when to come in on the right verse and stuff. I mean his voice was killer, just too bad he didn't know the material better.

At Karaoke shows, I love doing Turbo Lover and Hell Bent for Leather.
When I use to sing with live bands, on several occasions I used Green Manalishi as my audition song...hehehe, now that's a toughy, especially the last high not. I'm certain there's no way I could do it now, too much whiskey and too many cigarettes have seen to that.

One tune that I would love to see on Karaoke though is 'Before the Dawn' and the acoustic version of 'Diamonds and Rust' which is primo.

James

oh yeah!  diamonds and rust is one of my all time favs!  i'm pretty sure it'll never see karaoke time though.  not enough air-time when jp was "in" for anyone to know about it.  thought about doing hell bent for leather, but wife talked me out of it.  honestly our crowd isn't much on metal.  more of a george strait to jimmy buffet type.  as i said, i got funny looks for doing turbo lover!  maybe i'll find some time to set up and record some.  then i can sub it and you can lemme know what you think!

Dude, I just thought of this, but you what would be the killer tune for Karaoke?
Hellion/Electric Eye...whoa, that would be bad as hell. :D

Yeah, BEFORE THE DAWN is a great tune.  Kinda a hevy metal slow song.   I would love to have that one in karaoke too, but down 2 or 3 keys.   LOL

There is a guy in my town that owes me some favors.  He went to school for audio enginerring, and plays gituar, bass, keyboard, and a lil bit of drums.  I hav ebeen thiking if he could record the music for some songs that are N/A on karaoke, and then I could turn them in to karaoke with the words.

I love it when people owe me !!!!

Priest also did an acoustic version of this tune as well with K.K. on the 12 string and Glenn on the six string, it was for lack of a better word, beautiful and very moving.

Just spoke with my accounts manager (Gigi) and talked her into allowing me to get THe Sound Choice Judas Priest disk. Woohoo!

We might also get on of the Headbanger's Hits CDGs as well. After that and when the Jesus Christ Superstar disk get here, I'll be set, until I start drooling over the Rocky Horror disk again.

Trivia question which more or less ties in with the theme of the thread:
Who sang the vocals of Jesus on the JCS original score, and as an extra bonus, who did the vocals for Jesus on the soundtrack for the movie?

Without looking it up I'd guess that one of those is Ian Gillan. Just a guess.

and you would be correct sir. Ian Gillan also sang with Black Sabbath on the Born Again Album. While Gillan was doing his solo career, Glenn Hughes sang and played bass with Deep Purple with David Coverdale taking over the lead vocal spot. The only time that I'm aware of  that Gillan, Coverdale, Hughes have all three appeared together was on Roger Glovers side project the Butterflys Ball which was narrated by none other than Vincent Price. Just a bit of rock trivia for you folks out there.
But back to Priest, can anyone tell me what song saw Judas Priest being brought into court over alleged subliminal lyrics. Keep in mind that Priest in fact did not write this particular song, it was originally done by another band. Name that band as well.

I remember something about going to court over the lyrics of Better By You Better Than Me. If that's the correct answer I couldn't venture to guess the band who wrote it.

yep, Better by you, better than me, originally done by Spooky Tooth.

Oh man, I just thought of something. The first time I saw Priest was on the Point of Entry tour, and guess who were the opening acts. It was Iron Maiden w/Paul D'iannio,
Whitesnake w/David Coverdale(they were still a bluesy band without a hit back then), and The Ian Gillan band. I had forgotten all about that show until the subject came up.

That must have been quite a show. One of the disks I just ordered has tunes from Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, and of course Judas Priest.

Thta priest is gonna wreck my voice 'cause I'll bet I sound awful singing it theses days but Hell Bent for Leather is still one of favorites for karaoke.

Speaking of Judas Priest, I just got SC8660 and SC2506 for Christmas. I still can't get over the attention to detail Sound Choice has for this music.

yes!  priest fans!  he's my fav head banger.   electric eye WOULD be sweet.  I also wish there was more billy idol, from rebel yell, like CRANK CALL!  that is such a rockin idol song, and I assume it's no where to be found, so I keep playing the actually song and singing along with billy. OH YEAH, ALL RIGHT, WHY WASTE TIME TONITE!!  sorry yall, does my heart good to see so many priest fans out there I thought I'd get crazy, even though i switched over to IDOL.  as DQ would say, I love California, I practically grew up in Phoenix....anyway, Soundchoice aldo nova song and mental health is really good too.  they are so good at hard rock songs.  soon i will get that priest disc myself.  I also wish there was more RATT, but people don't like them as much as priest...they are kinda cheesy, but I don't care.

CRANK CALL!, aint no fun at all.....
