Hi. My father has a karaoke machine with CD-G support, but it doesnt support DVD. So he has connected an external source for the DVD playback. But he wants to get rid of that extra DVD player and just run the DVDs as CD-G.

Is there any way you can convert these DVDs and burn them as CD-G?
Any info would be much appriciated

Even if it could be done, I doubt it is cost effective.

Many DVD players made these days will also support CDG playback, so you would probably be best off going to buy one of these newer DVD players. I have seen CDG compatable DVD players for as little as $50.

If you can rip the video from the DVD's you can create VCD's (or SVCD's) that will playback just fine on nearly every CDG machine I've ever seen.

The RSQ 303 I have works great with VCD's.

And BTW, HI EVERYONE!!!!

Sorry I've been gone for so long... got busy managing a bar and doing a variety of other things...   Also moved from Alaska back to Florida.... and am now working as a 'Data Communications and Database Manager' for a local utilitity.  Once my equipment shows up from Alaska sometime late next month I'll be back singing and looking for more karaoke work here... I've been doing lots of DJ'ing though...

First of all, there is a long thread explaining why you can not convert DVD to CD+G. You can do a search and find it.

Most of the players are either DVD/CD+G or CD+G player. Very few will play VCD, some RSQ models being the exception. My suggestion is to stick with one machine that will play CD+G and DVD.

I haven't seen a DVD in close to 5 years that wouldn't play a VCD/SVCD.  Even those that support playing CDG's still play VCD's.

If yours won't then I'm truly surprised... I've used over 2 dozen DVD players over the years from a wide variety of manufacturers and they all played VCD/SVCD... but many didn't play CDG.

I don't recommend the conversion to VCD from DVD - but you 'can' do it...
