Ask someone who gives a damn.  No one here does.

I'm currently using a VHF Vocopro mic I can't recall the model # @ the moment but I feel that it's missing a little umph. What's a good wireless microphone system for home uses?

First of all, I would stay away from VHF mics. There is a post I have done a while back explaining why UHF is better than VHF. I know UHF is almost twice the price of VHF but due to interference and other factors, I would stick with UHF. That being said, I am using PYLE PRO PDWM8000 UHF that I bought for about $150 on ebay. They sound pretty decent but lacks a bit of lower end punch. That can be fixed with an EQ though.

I agree with Jian.  For home use, I would go with wired mics.  They are a lot cheaper than wireless mics.  Shure SM58 is a great mic.  If you are willing to spend a little more, I recommend Audix OM5.  The best way to judge the mics is by trying them out yourself at any local store.

By the way, if you still want a wireless mic, make sure you it has a diversity UHF receiver.

Cheers.

Would you go little bit deeper into differences between diversity and non-diversity and how it affects the sound quality, noise, interference, etc..?
Thanks

Diverstity - 2 independent receivers for 1 microphone, 2 antennas.  The signal going to the receiver is picked up & will switch to the strongest receiver at the time.  Less drop outs & interference.

Non-Diverstity - 1 receiver for mic, 1 antenna.  No secondary to switch to if signal gets weak, prone to drop outs & interference.
Do not confuse all 2 antenna systems as true diverstity, some are built for 2 mics & are actually 2 receivers in 1 chassis for each mic.  Make sureyou look at the specs when you buy.

Always use 1 microphone with a 2 antenna receiver.    True Diversity A & B channel receiver.

If youre going to use wirelss mics forget VHF, especially if youre in a built up area or where there may be numberous interference issues (taxis are a big problem)
UHF is less clustered and is your best bet.
I have a shure SLX with an SM86 mic, and a wh30 headset,
now whilst this is a $1,200 system, I got the whole thing on ebay for around $750-$800
you can get the SLX with an SM58 or 86 for about $450-$500 on ebay
shure refurbs are usually excellent and their customer service is top notch.

ebay "stores" such as hytechgear are very good and will offer help and assistance.

Hi Folks-

I'm new to this forum and new to Karaoke.

I built about a 40K PA over the last 3 years and just recently added Karaoke functionality.

I've learned a bunch but I have a lot left to learn!

I use the follwoing mic's, all wired. I added my persoanl opinion but that is all that it is:

Beta 87A: Best Sound, Most Fragile so I don't use them for Karaoke

Beta 58A: OK Sound, Very Durable, Good Choice for Karaoke

Audix OM 5: OK Sound, Durable, OK Choice For Kraoke

Audix OM 7: Great for screamers, Lacks dynamics for sublte voices, Not a good choice for Karaoke

Audio Technica AE6100: Full range sound, Hypercardiod pattern is easy to control, Cuts through the monitor mix better than any mic I use, Durable, Best Choice for Karaoke, cost $150.

The only challenge I face with the AE6100's is the lack of vocalist familiarity. They look at them with apprehension but after they give them a try I never hear a complaint.

dfurry, welcome and a good post.

Curious though.  I too use the 87A wireless.  Why do you say the 87A is more fragile than the 58A?  In the wirless the only difference is the head.  Any of the wireless bodies could be considered fragile due to the fact they have a plastic housing.

I have the 87A and the beta 58A both in wired also.  They are both very durable.

Again, welcome to the forum.

Kelly :)

The 87 is more fragile because it is a condensor mic.  The diaphragm is more suseptible to damage if dropped over the SM58 Dynamic design.
