Yeah, I would. Just not for the reasons you think.

At this point if I knew where this so called show was..I would avoid it like the plague...He has no respect for the singers and I would not put myself in that type of situation.

So my mouth wouldn't be hanging open anywhere near this venue....

Years ago the gam an fish opened a lake .. It had been closed for years and we knew it had some big pike in it...In fact on that lake I shot a deer from a boat...

So I went out to the farm and the only boat there was on old home made wooden boat about 12 feet long. Does it leak? Nope.  So we hooked on to an old military jeep with the paint peeling off. We pulled into Blac Hollow and there were about 20 big RV'S (camping)  Big cruisers were in the lake churning the water to a froth..S*** I muttered..

We backed down the ramp to chuckles snerrs and even kids with their noses turned up.  I fired the old 5 horse evinrude (pait peeling too) and we putted to some more quiet coves. About an hour later we returned to the ramp. Noses in the air Again. I pulled up about a 4 foot northern and my buddy did the same. Then we were ganged ..Wad you catch those on? What did you use?   Out of contempt I sais well the first thing you nedd is the righyt kind of boat.. Thats all I said .. WE hooked up and putted out.

If you are a fisherman you use what you got .Ive been in many trades and learned the trade enough to use every tool availible..  You perfect a craft with the basic resources then as you progress with more and bigger resources you are the best at your trade.

I dont think there is anybody here that started a business with a full inventory all the latest equiptment or whatever. In real life you go with what you can afford and if you use good business practices then you update and increase your inventory and services. I equate some of the comments on here with "To build a dog house you need a shop full of the latest laser woodworking tools. If you dont have them then you are not a carpenter" It is bullshit in the purest form..

Now if you cant equate the karaoke business and understand analogies with other trades and apply common sense then I can only assume you are in a fantasy land...

Well coming from you two I cherish those responses...Both of you are of the few that knew what I was talking about when I tried to apply real life business experience and common sense to karaoke. Ours is a fragile and dying business and it is pathetic when the real ones cant pool their knowledge and exchange working ideas without  childish intervention and ideals borne of fantasy.. And when you reach a certain age you can detect those in a flash that you have to lock your doors when they are around. But most of all when you are a pro at any thing you do you recognize those who are playing a role.. Ane there are those that are hosting and still playing a role ...Become one... you dont have to convince some people on a forum to convince thyself ahat you are. Quit trying to imitate or play a role what you think a karaoke host should be. Reach deep down inside bring out your talents and be one...Be real and honest... and when you know you are one then express your opinion and we will jell and benifit each other. Stop trying to give me and everybody else this BS...

You made a couple of really great posts there. Not having top of the line $600 mics and the latest sound equipment etc. Has nothing to do with success.

We have a guy right here in Portland that has medium grade equipment, low quality mic's and crappy books. Some folks on this forum (bet you can guess who) would call him a Hack.

Fact is he is one of the most successful KJ's in the Metropolitan Area. He has extremely talented singers that flock to him, he pulls folks in from 30 miles or better away from his gigs to come and sing, they spend lots of money and tip quite well. He packs the bar that seats over 100 and commands good $ from the venue. His sound quality is quite good coming from a medium quality system considering what he has to work with, but some of the top talent in the area overlook the equipment side of things because this guy has charisma, plain and simple. Frankly I think he could be using the bottom of the line stuff and get away with it.

The bottom line...if you think buying the best equipment will make you the best KJ you are in for some disappoinment. It takes much more than that to be the tops in your industry. We all gotta start somewhere right?

By the way next time you decide to take the SS Minnow out for a Pike run drop me a PM and I will fly in at a moments notice to have a chance to catch a 4 footer!!   LOL

Great Story :worship:

<edit>  I forgot to take my own advice and just let sleeping dogs lie.  It's nice and quiet for the moment...
