I went to do my bi-weekly donating of points to all the newbies  and most of them have either not posted anything (I don't donate until an initial post)  or they are spammers....That is the pits...new membership seems to be falling.....  :bigcry:

I noticed the drop in newbies. I hope it isn't related to the fact we have a lot of ego boosting repetitive posts lately   . I may need some help with points after xmas. I changed my user title to Merry Christmas not considering the fact I'll need to change it back after xmas  LMAO . At this point I'll be wishing everyone a Merry Christnas until June.  LMAO

I have started giving my extra points to Sharon so she can pass them out. I never go to the Newbie forum...I am a bad person.  :(

So I make Sharon do all the work.  LOL

You know I don't go to the newbie intro very often and I should...What I do is go to the members area and sort by date joined and anyone who has posted at least once and it was not spam or porn I give points to...  I just want to be sure that the people I give to are not spammers.....

I like doing it..I get to meet everyone...Plus I remember how alone I felt when I first joined...I wasn't sure what to do or anything...

Of course it is.

Just take a look at the main page of the discussion forum.  Half the threads have nothing to do with karaoke and there are threads that go on for weeks and weeks and weeks.  The board is nothing like it was when I signed up 2 or so years ago, and it definitely hasn't changed for the better.

I don't know what it was like 2 years ago but I can tell you that earlier this year it was not the way it is now...Right now everything is very negative....And I don't care for it.  Unfortunately it all seems to be driven by one person..Every thread is highjacked....

But anyways.......Thanks for commenting....Nice to meet you!!!  I hope to see you around more often...And hope to meet you in person sometime.....

Sharon

Jaded and bitter. When you first started posting here you were much less hostile. The attitude you are showing in your post above is the perfect example of what drives people away. So, as it may seem like totally off the topic of this thread it points directly to the subtopic.

No hard feelings, just chill.

Sharon, it could also be that this late in the year people are too busy to find or even search for a new forum. Many of the potential newbies may also be disenchanted by the fact that the main page of this forum states
Quote:
This is the place to talk about almost anything. BECOME A MEMBER & JOIN THE FUN!

It doesn't say that we must only talk about karaoke or subjects directly related to karaoke as seems to be the general consnesus.

Keep in mind that the singers outnumber the KJs. They made the main page of http://www.karaoke-forum.com into general chat before I came along. It seems to be for people that enjoy karaoke to talk about anything just as the page says. The exception being that some choose to consider this to only be for discussion by KJs about karaoke, not true. KJs have places where they can chat about the specific subjects pertaining to karaoke unbothered by those of us who are not currently KJs on this very website.

I already know how my manic posting annoyed many people and I have corrected that style of posting. I now stick mainly to subjects pertaining to karaoke or those that relate to karaoke. It is a mundane existence but I do respect the wishes of the senior posters enough to make that correction.

Sharon, I will donate some more points to you in just a moment. I know you have plenty now but I hope we actually have newbies join that are unbothered by the occasional attitude problems we get.

P.S. If anyone has a problem with this post you are welcome to tell me so in a PM so we can keep it off of this board. :D

thank you isis i was wondering where the points came from...as i have no clue how you get points anyway....and also what are spammers?
i have been reading all your guys posts and it seems like you guys know everything there is to know about running a system... i am in awe...most of the time i have no clue what anyone is talking about!!
i have a home system but i do a few shows here and there to keep a little money flowing in once in a while. but when you all talk about all the hook ups and stuff that you use i am lost!!
all i know how to do is run the equalizer and mic volumes and the mic settings...as far as all the technical stuff..i have no clue...have no clue what a cross over or bridge or 4 ohms or 8.... :D that stuff is very confusing to me...
my system is decent enuff i guess? it gets the job done ...but like i said ...i dont run a regular show so ...
i love reading all the posts...have to say i have agreed with big dog on a couple things...but i can see where his/her attitude runs off people...is he a he? or a she? i havent figured that out ?
ok ..i guess i have chatted enuff...and thank you again for the points.... :)

Colleen..You are so very welcome...Spammers are people that create threads here who are trying to sell us stuff...That is against the rules...Much like getting spam in your e-mail...

I'm with you..I can hook it all up I can run it but I can't tell you what all that stuff is called..I put the long black cord into the big black box then connect that with that other thingy....LOL

Bigdog is a he...We do not know what his name is or where he is located..He won't tell anyone so we can come visit his show...It's too bad I love visiting the shows that people here do...A lot of fun to see how others do it..and just to meet..

Oh and you get 1 point for every post you make on the board.  So if you post 5 times you have 5 points.

Sharon

oic.....
yep that is how i do it...or actually how i tell my husband (rick) to do it... :D
and as long as it all works when i turn the swtich on i am good to go..
i am very good at adjusting the sound though (at least that is what my friend patty tells me...i have her ususally run it...i would rather be in the crowd partying!) i find it incredibly boring to run the system...and dealing with the constant drunks! i get too annoyed...and want to tell them where to go...but ...i dont...i just smile and say..."yes that's right you were suppose to go next....." while silently saying "grrrr"
one time i had a guy continuously telling me how great his system at home was and how he sounded much better on his..then he literally tried to start adjusting my eqaulizer!! my husband walked up and told him he couldnt do that...he finally got mad and left..oh well...it was only like the second time i had ever ran the thing...that was like 5 years ago...needless to say i ahve learned a couple things since then...
but i tell you i have been to many many shows who have systems a lot better than mine..and i am always asking them questions as to what equipment they have and stuff like that...i think i annoy them...but hey..even if i am just singing at home i still want a quality sound     :D  :D not that it matters...the only ones who listen are my CATS!!

Colleen, you are where all of us
a) used to be
b) currently are
c) will be in the future

so welcome aboard!

I am not technical about the audio stuff either--I can remember what plugs in where but I usually have no idea WHY. This is a good place to learn. The tech forum is usually over my head, but nearly all of the real audiophiles and karaoke-philes here are willing to use small words and explain stuff if you ask them.

I am sorry you ended up landing in our little soap opera; Bigdog has been very, very helpful and offered some great insights since I have been around, but here lately about the only information we can get out of him is that we should do exactly what he says, so....

Jump on in, the water's fine!

ok thank you Texas Gigi.....
my husband wants me to start getting more kj jobs...so i will probably be learning a lot more from you guys and from experiences...but i tell you..i much rather just sing!! so i am dragging my feet about actually going and looking for a job...one of my biggest problems is that right now they still allow smoking in the bars here and i cant handle it,  but..they just passed a law that it is going to be banned ...i personally do not think it should be banned i just think they need better ventilation systems.

Queenbee - I remembered when I started. Sometimes feeling very overwhelmed with learning it all and dealing with the tough patrons. Many people here have listened to my venting. The support I received here helped me immensely ! Sometimes you have to get tough with patrons and you have nothing to feel bad about. That was hard for me. I knew I had done nothing wrong, but still felt bad. You can't please everyone.

Friday night I had some guy say "F U " to me because all the mics were being used and he wanted his own mic to sing with his friends. I didn't say a word until he wanted to sing again. I told him I didn't appreciate what he said to me and he wouldn't be aloud to sing that night (even though he did apologize). I didn't need a loose cannon like that on a mic. He would be aloud to sing next time he came in if he behaved himself. Do I feel bad - no.
