On a mores sober note, though, Could there be a SPAM button that only requires one user to click it in order to remove the thread? The thread then goes to the admin for review--if it is spam, the user and the thread are deleted. If it is NOT spam, it is reposted and the user who submitted it as spam is banned or racks up a vote to be banned (unless they have previously emailed the admin saying Oops).

On the Cavs website it took almost a week before my first post could be viewed.
That obviously means they sensor all their first timers. Not a bad idea.

I'd think administration would opt for a method of solving this problem that's efficient, somewhat simple to implement, and not costly.  Perhaps the idea of programming site software not allowing url's in the immediate access sites but (as Matt agreed with) members would need to have an established history (of perhaps 15 posts) earning priviledge of joining Singer's Forum, Tech Forum, or other forums that will now become *must first have history or approval to gain access to forums/clubs* and THESE clubs/ other forum sites would "hopefully" be able to allow url's  leaving  Open Forum-> Discussion Forum a lobby all land in as "newbies" along with the "introduce yourself" site sites coding would disable url's in.


As Bab's mentioned (and this is another area I have NO knowledge of) making the membership confirmation process via response in email prior to entry a method that is "bot proof" in addition a process few spammers would  benefit from.  IE.. several day delay between joining and admission (of course by this time spammers that are changing their origin points so frequently wouldn't exist by their originally listed Email addresses anyway) Certain email code response, and at that point needing to generate a new password, or some slight wrench in the admission process that would weed out spammers.


Another option might be some spambusting software.  Doesn't Symantic have something ?  Some software that helps sysops, or some other antispam program that stops spam at the SMPT server ?  something like that ???

Implementing a few of the above ideas would help.
