All night at work I reveiwed the search engine of the KS for posts on converting CD+G's to MP3's for using computers to perform Karaoke.
After work, spent the rest of the night trying the various free downloads of CDG files to desktop PC conversions. All failed to do what I was trying to do. Then I ran across Microstudio, downloaded the free version and within minutes I had a song copied from CD+G to my computer. So I did a second song. Same positive result. I could'nt believe the ease of use, so I pulled the disk from the drive, thinking it was reading from it somehow w/o running. The songs have been copied into my Microstudio folder and they play along with the Lyrics screen when called up!
It only plays the first 1:30 of the songs, but its just the demo. They want $39.95 for the version 3.001 and its just been released as of 11/22/06. I may get it just for the ease of use. My computer corrupted during a DL of Roxbox, I was really wanting to try that from all the rave reviews I've read. Because of the corruption, it won't let me back in.
If anyone has this now, I'm just wanting to know about how to go about naming the files easier than one at a time, is there an easier way? I've got 2519 songs, and that will take quite a while. I've already bought the winamp mp3+g plug in. I'm not sure if it will be used or not...will need a hoster program, but will the files that Microstudio copies be able to be used elswhere or do I need the MTU hoster specifically. I was working with Sax & Dotty and getting good with it. Tried Karafun, but no conversion capabilities...they sure got some nice ideas though. Putting sunsets and other smooth scenes behind the lyrics...would be nice to have that capability with other programs.
Just need some feedback on the Microstudio program, are the files able to be used w/other programs and hosting software? What programs are you running as hoster etc.
Thanks for the replies...

You do not want to use Microstudio for hosting a show. That's what MTU's "Hoster" is for. Microstudio also will not allow using a second screen to send your lyrics to.
Microstudio is more of a work station for compiling disc and or utilizing different formats.

Thanks Kellyoke - I was'nt planning on using it to host a show, (at least I don't think I was...I was tired) and with the dual screen lockout, that looks impossible. As of now, I'm trying to DL Roxbox again.
I've got dial up, had too many screens going during DL and the computer froze up on me. I have read more good things about Roxbox than others...its capability to produce songlists, rip the CDG's to hard drive etc. I'm just trying to rip a CDG disk and lyrics to HD to check out the various hoster programs. I've got S&D, Winamp, and now trying to get Roxbox again. Once I figure which one I want, I'll go back and uninstall the unused software.
I've yet to upgrade this dektop, according to everyones rec. its gonna need more RAM (only 512 now), a dual display video card, and an external hard drive of at least 100-200GB. I'm choosing external for the fact of being able to DL my freinds MP3's for KJ/DJ night. Don't want to lug around a desktop everywhere. Not sure if I'll upgrade the soundcard or not - this one now sounds great (SoundMAX Digital Audio), but that's with the smaller speakers (Altec Lansing). If I hear any sound distortion/degradation at all with my PA system, I'll upgrade the sound card.
Any suggestions or further reccomendations are greatly appreciated...

That's what I love about this place bigjim56, you can make a more educated decision with all of the input you get here. It saves years in trial and error.

Chuck2 - yeah, I've learned quite a bit already. Was reading some of my first posts yesterday and had a few laughs. We all have to jump in somewhere.
Finally was sucessful in DL'ing Roxbox, but now its stopped on me...says its not registered. I'm only trying the demo...does it have to be registered? Also just upgraded to Winamp pro 5.3...for faster ripping it looks to be worth it. ($14.95)
Thanks,
