Hey everyone, been here a few years ago and now back again and no, i ain't been in prison either. Now here's what i'm gonna do. I have a pretty good PA system with built in sound effects processor with floor monitor that i used to use to perform with, so the next logical step was to buy a Karaoke player and a bunch of CD's off Ebay, etc. Bought a few cheap Behringer mics, no one is using my good ol trusty SM 58 or SM 57. Figured i could use the Karaoke stuff to entertain at M/C club parties before the band starts. I've watched it enough to figure out how to do it and i've got a big head start over most people in that i already know  audio recording and how to set up and mix sound and work with effects. Hardest part i've found so far is listing the songs on a spreadsheet so i could sort and print them in order by artist and song title. Whew, that takes some time when you got 175 discs but i guess you only have to do it once. I wouldn't have to do a whole bunch of books like if i was in a bar or something. I suppose biker karaoke would be the same as anything else and contrary to what some of you might think we're not going to knock you off the stage if you can't sing(i have seen that done years ago). Told the b**** to put the mic down and she wouldn't listen. LOL Even though we might do it a little differently than at a bar the end result is the same, having fun. Anyone got any suggestions feel free to comment, you know.  Ah, just running my mouth. Have fun everybody.

Enjoy! Yes listing the songs is a drag!  I use Access rather than a spreadsheet myself.

I spent at least 8 hours of computer time putting my bookes together with MBD (Music Book Deluxe) that I bought off of e-bay for $69. The software was a -itch to figure out...helps to watch the tutorial. It was a ROYAL PAIN, but now its done and everyhting is normal. Be prepared to spend this amount of time for yours too. It's like a boot camp, once its over its history. Upgrades to books can be added/dated to back of book. If you use other means, be prepared to type hours non-stop.

I did read where exweedfarmer went to individual websites of each disk series to get their own individual printout of their sets, but that does'nt organize them anyway with the rest of the sets. Maybe there's software that does that, I'm not sure. If there is, copy and past it to a word program and then when its all combined...final copy and past to aphabetizer software for the pro finish.   Good luck.

I ride also, its great to park it outside the bar window and enjoy the eye candy
throughout the night. It's even better to leave at the end of the day shift and buzz the tower (bar) with the doors open!

I went to the websites and got the lists also so all i'm doing is cutting and pasting instead of typing. I can type pretty fast but i found that better. Some of the lists were incorrect and i had to check each one against the song listings on the CD. Got that done and i'm working on putting everything into a spreadsheet so i can put them in order by artist and song title. Took awhile to figure out how to list the discs and song title #'s themselves but we did it starting at disc A01 song title 01,A01 02, etc. up to A99  and then start over at disc B1. That way if i want to add some discs later i can sort them by number again in the spreadsheet and go from there and then add them to the book. Got one disc that came with the player in NEO+G format that had 75 songs on it. Not sure where you get discs like that but that sure seems like a good idea.

the NEO format is a completely proprietary one. It's basically a mp3+g format on a DVD.

I'm pretty literate when it comes to computer software, and MS ACCESS (or any good data base program) is probably the most beneficial to use in the long run (when you want specific historical data about your library, including cost).  But...to get everything up and running quickly, MS WORD is superior, by far, to anything.  I make this statement if for no other reason than the fact that most disks you purchase are catalogued on the typcial web site in WORD.  Usually, it's just a matter of copying from the web and inserting the data into my file.

This subject brings me to one large peeve of mine.  In developing my catalogue, I've come to wonder if most if not all of the karaoke disk manufactures are doing some "shady" things.  This question arose in my mind after it became clear to me that all too often the name of the artist most often associated with a particular song is missing and or misspelled.  Some examples of some commonplace misspellings throughout my files that had to be corrected:  Def Leopard, Leann Rimes, Sara McLachlan, Sarah MacLauchlan, Poisin, Lauren Hill, Six Pence Non The Richer, Hollywood Angels (instead of Argyles).  These mispellings originate with the manufacturers, because they consistenly appear on every web site and on the merchandise when it arrives.

I think the typos are because they do not pay enough and do not hire editors or proofreaders..you see it everywhere. Consequently, I have never seen a songbook that is error-free, including ours, which I proofread every time we have friends over to sing.

I put our stuff in an Excel spreadsheet and then linked an Access database to it..I get the ease of editing a spreadsheet and the ability to print a nice looking book. PM me if you want info...right now the "how-to" information is in my head but I will help where I can. You can also take Word documents and save them in a format that will pull up in Excel. I am far from an expert on the MS Office applications, but I have the basics down and I am always willing to offer advice!
