Well gee, i'll play second grader...you show me yours, i'll show you mine. At least I have the knowledge to have one! Doesn't take alot of smarts to make a free one, I even pointed you in the direction of it at one time! So don't play stupid, I know it's hard, but i've given it to you before!

LMAO LMAO
I thought such a big reply was going to be more informative. :O
I'm like Elvis. Everybody knows me/of me. Where to find good karaoke. Don't need no stinkin' web site. I'm the KJ everyone around here has heard about. The legend thing...... you know? They don't really like to talk about me, lest I come to their neck of the woods. Hunting for new pray. They shake in their boots. Hoping against all hope that they never see the whites of my eyes. It only means one thing for them......... :O

Boy this thread degenerated into a druken Karaoke nightmare.... LOL
Quick no-no story. I had heard from an old friend of the family who was KJ'ing in California (Catalina Island I think). I had heard that at times people would offer 100's of dollars to get moved up in the rotation. Usually it was a part of sorts (e.g. bachelor party etc.). I guess he would do it. But I think that situation (e.g. at a resort) is somewhat different-- that is, you wonldn't get "regulars". Although I'm sure folks waiting in the rotation would get pissed.
Also, at Imperial Palace in Vegas, you can pay $10 or $20 for a one or two song DVD of you singing. If you chose one of those, you'll get priority in the rotation.
I've started KJ'ing recently for an outfit here in PHX-- just as a fillin and for fun. Tips for moving up in the rotation are a def. no-no.

I think we need to look at the bumping of singers for a big tip in a different way.
How about this.....
If someone want to bump up in the rotation for say a $20, see if some other singer towards the top of the rotation will sell their spot for the $20.
Just a thought.

Here's an interesting wrinkle on this question....
If you are doing a private party, do you bring a tip jar? I have an oversized plastic Brandy snifter I use at weekly shows with the word "Tips" written on it. I tend to keep it as inconspicouis as possible. I brought it along with me to a private party this weekend, but left it in the car at the last minute because it felt 'funny'.
I know some KJ's don't even like having a tip jar, but for those that do, Would you bring the tip jar in to a private party? I haveanother coming up in a few weeks....

HMMM...I did a "free" karaoke job for a party my sister was having. Instead of her paying me I just put out a tip jar. It was a very small party...but i still ended up getting a nice amount of money.
It worked out well in that situation. And everyone enjoyed themselves.
