At the advice of most of the people on this forum, I started my collection by getting Sound Choice Foundation 1 & 2.  I've found the songs to be great, however a little lacking on modern songs (90s and 2000s).

I was hoping for some advice on a good modern compilation.  Mostly Pop and Rock from the 90s and 2000s.  Supercore 2006 looks like it has a good mix of popular modern songs.  How is the quality on that set?  Any others I should be looking at?

Thanks.

I'm not familiar with Supercore's stuff, so I'll leave that to someone else.

As far as foundation sets (from any manufacturer) generally the higher the number, the more likely to get newer music. The foundation sets are suppose to be a good way to get a large number of a broad range of music. You can also check the song lists on-line before buying the sets to see what songs are on them.

Supercore is pretty good... for what you are getting!

They're a combination of Pop Hits Monthly (pop, country, rock), Top Hits Monthly (pop, country, rock), Star Disc, and I THINK a few others...

Some aren't the best, but they will fill a need. I just wonder at the legality of them.

I would rate SuperCore as average on most genres, but I find that their oldies music is very good.

If you want a good set of modern tracks, go check out some of the ChartBuster compilation sets. They make a set every year of the previous year's top music. It is usually 6 discs and runs about $60 for 100 songs. They also break them down by genre if you want even more depth to your newer tracks. The 2006 compilations come out in mid January.

Also check out karaoke.com's bargin bin. They often sell overstock of monthly discs like Sing it Now or Pop Hits Monthly for $3-5 each.

Supercore is a good filler/starter pak, as is the All Hits Maxx Pak. One of my fave filler/starter paks is the Dangerous set. Supercore will run you between 59-60 bucks on average. All Hits if you look around you can find for about 29 bucks. The Dangerous set, your best best is to hit Ebay, where you can pick it up for as low as 7 to 10 bucks if you are persistent.
Chartbuster stays pretty true to country standards and classic rock whereas Soundchoice would be a better bet for newer rock and pop. Folks will recommend Pop/Country Hits Monthly for having the newest stuff, but sound quality isn't much different overall from Chartbuster and Soundchoice.
In my honest opinion, all Karaoke series are lacking in quality and true versions of the songs in both musicianship and lyrics, some just manage to get it a bit more right than others. As I get into the biz a bit more, I'm finding that I prefer the Zoom and Sunfly series for certain artist. But that just comes down to personal preference and the type of music that you're looking for. I just try to bring a bit more diversity to my show than what some of your more recommended series offer. Some folks prefer to play it safe, which is cool, to each his/her own.
So let your ear be your guide, what sounds great to one person, may sound like trash to the next.

FOr music from 2000-2004, the Pop Hits Monthly Millenium Vol2.

There was a volume 1, however not sure if Vol 2 has the same songs or if it replaced Vol 1 with additional newer music.

THM has done some Best ofs but it appears most have sold out, but you might check ebay or the net for any available discs.

You can find older versions of the POP Hits Monthly on sale for $10 each.   Regularly $18.   Every month they have 9 new songs.

And if you have DVD karaoke player, there are some collections that have 500 current hits.
