I'm currently using a VHF Vocopro mic I can't recall the model # @ the moment but I feel that it's missing a little umph. What's a good wireless microphone system for home uses?

For home use I prefer a wired mic. For the same model it is cheaper but better. SM 58 is less than a $100

I agree with Jian.  For home use, I would go with wired mics.  They are a lot cheaper than wireless mics.  Shure SM58 is a great mic.  If you are willing to spend a little more, I recommend Audix OM5.  The best way to judge the mics is by trying them out yourself at any local store.

By the way, if you still want a wireless mic, make sure you it has a diversity UHF receiver.

Cheers.

Keep speaking for yourself.  Not sure BD you've ever stated exactly what brand and type your $600 mics are.  Care to divulge?

Dog,
Your mic cannot sound any better than a wired sm58. And you know why? Because it is an sm58. The receiver/transmitter cost you the extra $500.

BD, you should try the 87A head on those mics.  But then again, you'd have to come up with more money.

A $600 wireless mic is a system, not a mic.  The mic itself may cost $100.  Don't confuse yourself.  The cost is the receiver, not the mic.  But then again what can we expect from someone who doesn't know how to hook up their sound system properly, and no clue about speakers and speaker material.

Well I just wasted a few minutes of my life responding to an........

Hey BD, does your foot tastes good? I have a breath mint if needed. I agree with Kelly...the Beta87A is a phenomonal mic I sang through one and then had to settle for the Beta58A for budgetary reasons; although the SM58 is a great mic too.

Most all of my equipment has either been purchased through Musicians Friend or off of eBay.  I have been extremely lucky with eBay.  I have as yet to ever been "burned."  You just have to make sure who you are dealing with.

The Shure "System" that BD "says" he uses can be bought on ebay  for around $599.  The same system with the 87A head instead of the SM58 head, runs around $699 - $729.

However, IF your just starting out, and money IS a consideration; you can't beat a wired SM58.

What I presently own: 3 wired Beta 58A's.  2 SM58 wireless heads. And 1 wired and 4 wireless 87A's.  There IS a definite difference in voice quality.  IMO, the SM58 is a good mic.  The Beta 58A is a better mic.  And the 87A is a great mic.  If you ever have the chance to play with the three you will be surprised at how much better they sound as you step up.  Also just recently bought the Shure 55SHII. (Elvis mic)  internally has the SM56.  Very distinct sound for the oldies. (personally I like the looks)

Not just with mics, but with any equipment,  always get the best quality that you can afford at the time.  I will be the first to admit, that for karaoke, much that I use is, and would be, considered over kill.  But I like it.

Oh I can afford to use them, I choose not to - no point.  For one thing my $100 SM58 is the EXACT same as your SM58 - down to spl, frequency response, sound, etc.  You paid for the receiver/transmitter - not the mic  .  You want a TRUE $600 microphone & not just $100 microphone with a $500 radio unit, then try the Neumann KMS105
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=271409
THis will make your '$600' microphone sound like a Rat Shack weekend sale!

Good point Lonman.  Wished I had thought to mention that.  The difference in cost with most wireless systems is the head.  And I have to admit.  Sometimes I feel the wired mic can give a better sound.

Wow folks, sorry to bring up a simple question that brought up so much drama.

I do have a wired Shure 58, then I went with the Vocopro wireless. When I had the wired mics I find myself singing less because I don't want to clean up the wires afterward.

For vocal I'm using the following components Vocopro SV-300 hook to a DA-4050FX paired with a VHF-48 wireless  mics strictly vocal, no music is played through this, (I have a feeling this is a waste.)

For music I'm playing it through my home theatre system with the following components and strictly for musc no vocal is play through here.

Denon AVR3802
Polk audio, RTI6 (fronts) CSi5 (center), FXi5 (surrounds) and NHT Subone (subwoofer) When we sing I set this on 5 channels stereo hence all speakers get equal signals and power.

The only thing is lacking now is the little umph in the vocal pick up. I don't know if it's my speakers or if it's the mics that's not giving the smooth vocal feedbacks.

I'm willing to upgrade the entire vocal component including the reciever to get the sound I want. space is limited in the family so I need something not too big bookshelf is pretty much my only option.

No apology needed dannieboiz.  That's what the forum is for.  To share ideas and opinions.  We all have different views and favorites.  And most of us all respect the right of one  another to have that "different" opinion.  Only "one" of us has been acting like  the god of karaoke.   LOL

You may want to consider a small PA strictly for karaoke.  Home theater equipment - especially speakers) aren't designed for vocal reproduction & can and often will harm your speakers over time.

I prefer the sound of the Audio Technica over the Shure.

No, it's a $10 microphone and a $590 reciever.  LMAO

Good enough for karaoke.
