Has this ever happened to any of you out there?

Some background: Earlier this week I was cruising Craigs List Musician Section and came across an add for a singer for a blues band. It is a harmonica, bass and drum band. Seems they cant keep guitarists so they go without. But they need a singer. They do straight ahead Chicago blues. So I responded. I made it very clear that Im a Karaoke person and have little or no expereince with live bands--a complete band beginner. I also sent them a couple demos I recorded(ones that Ive posted on SS before).

So tonight at my Karaoeke show, lo and behold here they are to meet me and check me out. So we sat and visited and talked about what they do with the music and thier style. So after that I got up and sang some Karaoke songs for them.
Sang jazz, blues and swing(Straighten up and fly right-Diana Krall version, Mannish Boy-Muddy Waters, Royal Crown Revue-The Walkin Blues, Derek and the Dominoes-Have you ever loved a woman).

So anyway they then gave me a blues cd and tell me to learn 3 songs and then come to thier rehearsal and try them out with them playing to see how I would sound and do with the band.  So what this acutally turned out to be was an ACTUAL AUDITION AT MY KARAOKE SHOW!! CRAZY AZZ STUFF HUH??

So apparently they thought I was good enough to take the next step and go to an actual rehearsal with them!!  So ill learn the songs and see what happens. Opportunity doenst come around very often so have to take it when it comes.
Crazy huh???  :O  LMAO  LMAO

So has anything like this ever happened to anyone out there?

I know Charmin has been invited to jams based on her Karaoke singing at Karaoke Bars.

I posted up one of the songs that I have to learn and try out with: Little Walter--My Babe

It happened to me in a way. I used to sing seven nights a week and as many of the old standards as I could which wasn't very many. A band was actually considering having me sing for them just from hearing me at karaoke. My work schedule is what stood in the way of that gig.

SwingcatKurt- Oh, how cool! Good Luck!! The closest I've come is that their are two bands that come in where I work karaoke, and they will ask me to sing with them when I go to one of their shows. It's an amazing rush singing with a live band!

Sorry I forgot to put this in the previous post but good luck to you Kurt. If you sing for them they will never regret it.

I produced a show like mine for a friend of mine.
it  was three women taking turns on stage singing. there happened to be a band in the audiance the first night of their show and by the end of the night one of the women was in negoitations with the band she said yes to joining and was lead singing for the band after doing her first time ever show, before the show I produced for them ,she only sang during Karaoke nights now she's a lead in a Band.

I have thought of singing with a band again, but I really dont want to split the booty 4 or 5 ways....... with my show I take it all home with me.
it's still fun to get up and sing a song or two with a band on the weekends.

good luck Kurt... your the man when it comes to Blues and swing.

I have been asked by people that have come into the bar if I was interested in singing with their band. At first I took these people serious and thought sure I'll give it a shot, but it usually panned out to be nothing. I've even had guys say they were opening a bar and wanted me to run it or be their main attraction. Beware woman hosts ! I swear 99% these guys are just pick up artists. Fortunately enough I am old enough and wise enough to see this. I'm not saying they are all liars, but most are.
I even had some thug looking guys come in from Chicago that could rap pretty good that wanted me to record with them. Yikes ! I think I'll pass !
