You never have rowdy drunk singers? That's no fun.

If I had a crowd like that I would have missed the pleasure of having someone puke on stage  LMAO

Where is this seniors center? LMAO

It's really much more pleasurable to have the majority of the crowd sing and not scream all night.   That's just the way I like it.

He makes nothing....

Start from the singer that isn't brain dead and is singing the song they wanted to sing.

While they are singing, I load the next song and run a microphone out to the next singer.      At that time I can also give a microphone to the 3rd singer.     So if brain dead changes their mind they can tell me when I give them the microphone.     No dead air, no filler music.     I'm a self-trained professional, remember?

Why is non stop, continuos karaoke music so hard to comprehend?    It's not Rocket Surgery...   NO filler music means no filler music, ever.    No dead air means no dead air.     Your methods need some work.     Mine are perfected.

Bigdog show is the kind of show I will go to. Non stop karaoke, with no waste of time for non singing activities. When I was an active KJ, that was how I did the show. I do not hand the mic around (we do not have stage and singers sing from the seat or any where), we have one of the waitress to do that.

What we got was ALMOST non stop karaoke. And we used JVC triple drawer and a spare player.

Was there any dancing? Yes, and a lot, but to karaoke songs and not CD music.

Bigdog must have been to my part of the world and copy from us. The worst part is now he want to charge for an internship.

LOL  LOL

I know I should know better already than to try to point out things, but why not.....

With my singers, most do not know it is the wrong song untiul it starts or they realize they meant the other version. In that case, you still have dead air letting the 3rd singer know they are about to be up.

I am all for the concept, and I could see where with the right timing it could come close to being seamless. I just think that with reality, the only way to completely avoid DEAD AIR is with some kind of background.

Just my $.02

I find the best way for me to get everyone involved is to talk to the people over the mic. Now I don't mean act like you are the show. I like to encourage people to clap after a song, joke, stop hecklers etc.... If I were to cue music back to back it would cut into some of our fun not to mention people applauding for the singer. a few seconds of no music never hurt anyone. My show is basically back to back music. I've been doing this a long time and once in a while I may cue up the wrong song or not make it back from the bathroom exactly on time. Crap happens, but we are talking about seconds here not minutes.

My singers are not brain dead or drunk to oblivion.   NO magic, just a higher quality singer.    They know what song they are singing and if they want to make a change they let me know the day before.

Shows like mine a very few and far between.     You should consider yourself very lucky if you have or ever will attend one of my "MAGIC" shows.    No filler, all karaoke.

I used to want to visit Bigdog's show, but not any more. It sounds unappealing. Take your shots, BD. I can sing. I rarely change songs (rarely meaning once in tha past 10 years). I buy my drinks, with or without alcohol. I know that spending money on professional equipment does not matter if you cannot use it professionally.

So...you have four other bar owners who want you, but you stick with the idiot bar owner who underpays you so you can give him ultimatums about a$$holes in the bar? That makes as much sense as passing around $600 mics like candy.

I don't understand your over baked point.

The over abundance of cheap, underfunded, ill-equiped hacks is what is determining the going acceptable rate.    I am worth much more than everyone of them.    However, convincing a bar owner that you are worth the money we seek is an entirely different matter.   I want at least $300 a show.    What the supply and demand dictates is slightly different.    I can want $300 all I want.     If I want to work steady I have to make a concession that I really hate.     I still charge more than almost everyone.   So I can take their job and get paid more, because...

When you are use to singing on crap, you begin to like it.   I never will.    Hence, I chose to put myself above the rest with a much higher quality production.   If you can't take the heat stay out of the kitchen.     Not once has any singer ever said that my microphones sound like crap.   Not once has a singer ever said my system sucks.     I hear about all of the crap-tacular hack systems all the time.  From disgruntled singers.   The ones that do appreciate my quality.    There aren't any that don't. :O

Yes, my point is overbaked. Like your point about hacks and your utter superiority.

I think it is great that your audience appreciates your show and your equipment. That is what every good KJ strives for. I think there are other KJs who are in the same position.

Here is the explanation of my overbaked point:

I think you are in a seriously good position to negotiate with another club owner and get more money by moving to another club if you are that much in demand. Your audience would follow. I think there is a reason you haven't done that, which is none of our business--there are bunches of things in a person's life that can influence a decision like that. I feel sorry for you if circumstances are forbidding you from taking that opportunity.

That's all. I will quit repeating myself.

I don't know how much actual KJ experience you have but....The bars around here seem to get the "following" for karaoke.    Meaning it's people that want to be at a particular bar on that particular karaoke night.     Many people don't want to cross imaginary boundary lines such as rivers, toll roads, even certain bridges that they think form an imaginary line they chose not to cross.

Leaving a steady job, 10 minutes from my house to travel 20 miles, a toll road, and a 30-40 minutes doesn't make good business sense even if it's for an extra $25.   PLUS the biggest factor is very few people from my old job will travel all that way.     So money is not always the deciding factor in where I chose to play.     The new bar would undoubtedly have a big crowd.  So technically that wouldn't be a factor for me.   All my crowds are nice sized.    It's great to be king.

The troublemakers are few and far between.

One guy ended up doing some time for shooting and wounding someone.   One guy did end up pulling a gun on someone.     I just had one guy barred when I'm there.    One bar owner we had barred from his own bar on karaoke night.   He gave my ex trouble and she stopped the show mid song and packed up.   His daughter called and begged us to come back.  We did 3 nights a week there.   WE went back only after it was agreed that the owner would not be there while we did karaoke.     He would be sitting at the bar when we arrived to set up.     He would put down his drink and immediately leave for the night.   Smart guy.   He knew how to make money.

The going rate around here is still not very negotiable.    I work 5 nights a week.   I make more than most other KJs.     I've been turning down work.     Turn me over I'm done baking on this side.     Just remember, High quality equipment will always rule the KJ world.

Get off your high horse & just post useful info & not your ego trip.

Because posts like this

Don't help you along either especially when you can't even hook it up or set it up correctly in the first place.

I can't blame you for staying put, then. We have similar imaginary lines here--every bar has its own crowd for the most part. But we do have a couple of very popular local KJs that play different nights at different venues, and they have a following, but even then, it seems most singers have a "home" bar.

We have a handful of venues that we frequent and a list a mile long we intend to try out someday.

People will frequent a bar for many reasons - regardless of the entertainment.  If the service is good & prices reasonable, this will always be a draw & whatever is going on is icing on the cake.  NO form of entertainment can bring in a crowd if the service sucks & prices outrageous, clientelle is another factor.

This should not be considered an indorsement to use crap equipment, ever.    Quality pays for itself over and over.
