My dad unexpectedly passed out the Friday before Halloween at his home. He was rushed to the hospital emergency then transferred to a hospital specializing in heart patients. He began breathing on his own but never gained consciousness. The doctors have said that he went too long without oxygen to his brain. We lost him almost a week later. I have 2 brothers and we have all been trying to help our mother through this very difficult time. They were married for 53 years ( would have been 54 come July). Yesterday was the funeral and we, as a family, are having a pretty tough time right now. My dad was a great man and will be missed very much by many people. Just thought I would let some of you know what I have been up to. I hope to be back on here soon with some more subs.--Mike

Sorry to hear of that Mike.
I would be like a lost little kid without my dad, we're very close, so I sympathize with you and your family..... that's not an easy thing to go through. Haven't lost either of my parents, don't even want to think of the day, but I've lost a brother.
I don't have any wise words to make ya feel better, anything people say at a time like this sounds kinda banal, but.... dwell on the good memories of him, laugh about them as well as cry.... and be there for your mom.

Charmin, I do feel like a lost little kid! My dad was such a great guy! Everyone who ever met him liked him. He had his heart attack on a Friday morning and that evening during half time at a high school football game, a radio station said something about it, and asked people to remember him and his family in their prayers. He was not anyone with an important position in town, he was just well liked! To me, the richest man is the man with many friends. I really miss him today. I am having a pretty hard time being at work. I think I probably should have just taken off another day or maybe the rest of the week.--Mike

Mike, I am so deeply sorry to hear about your dear Dad. May he rest in peace. Coincidentally, I haven't been around that much either due to my own Dad being in the hospital with heart problems. He is doing much better though after having a cautherization and he is now seriously watching his diet.
You and your family are in my prayers.

oh, Mike.... I'm so sorry about your dad. I really don't know what to say during times like these, as I've never lost anyone close to me before, but take care of yourself and your mom & family.... I'll be thinking of you

I really do appreciate everyone's kind words and concern. I have never faced anything so difficult in my life. I was very close to my dad. As a matter of a fact, I tried to revive him before paramedics arrived. I feel such a terrible loss. He was an incredible man with many, many friends. People seemed to cling to him because of his personality. He never met a stranger and he never had an enemy, as far as I know. I really do miss him. Luly, I hope your dad continues to get better. Thank you to all of you who always show me such kindness!--Mike

Mike, I wish you all the best and all the strength you need to get through this. I never know what to say in this situation even though I last my mom just three years ago and a cousin last year at a very young age.
It seems like the world will miss your dad as the world needs more people like him.
Chuck

Thanks Chuck! I really appreciate your kind words. I certainly miss him. We spent a lot of time together. The older I got, the better our relationship became. I am just glad he knew what I thought of him long before he died. Thanks again Chuck!

I too am very sorry to hear of your loss. I can only imagine how difficult this must be for your family. My parents have been married over 50 years also. I worry about how my mother will be if my father passes 1st. After that amount of time they function more as one person together. My thoughts are with you and I'll pray for your mom especially that she finds away to continue life without her other half.

Thank you! My mom is having a really hard time. When my dad retired in 1987, they spent all of their time together. They were never apart! Now she does not know what to do. I can understand that after being married for as long as they have been together.
