keith recommended the delta 44 but would still need a pre-amp this way my mixer can stay in the gear bag with the rest of my PA and I dont need to pack down...however if its that good sound wise I guess I will be packing it down and taking it with me to gigs lol
at present I use a tiny usb sound module the size of a usb flashkey for sound at gigs cos its nice n portable and I can record as well if needs be. its a lot clearer sound than coming from headphone jack in lappy and only cost $20 lol

I agree that a gigaport will give you an increase in sound quality. You have gone so long without a sound card my question is how do you mix music or que music with ounly one sound card?

The gigaport will have less latency than your onboard sound card and offer multiple outputs, you can use 1 for music 1 for music cue and a third for your karaoke player.

I like having 3 outputs at my disposal.

you can cue and mix if your single sound card is full duplex, how do you think radio stations do it

ok for anyone interested I have posted a couple of tracks using the new external. My biggest bug-bear in the past has been the lack of dynamics in recording when I want to get up close and personal to the rock chick part of me. The first song I did is a song I have never recorded before let alone sung at a gig. I had run thru it a while back but that was as far as it went...the song REM Man on the Moon. It was weird recording just plugging straight into the m-audio as I loathe my voice dry....also it only records mic in mono unlike my mixer that will give a left and right feed on vocal track. This means I spent a few extra minutes copying and pasting left track to right.
I was impressed at how the m-audio fasttrack usb interface picked up the nuances. But its sensitive...I had to be on mic the moment I deviated which I am inclined to do when going strong, there was definate drop off, you will hear that toward the end of man on the moon.
Tonite I have just posted a song I love and have done live with sucess but have never been happy with the way it recorded...BS&T Hi de ho.
It is still taking me a bit to get used to recording dry but that is just a personal thing and not a criticism of the hardware.
The improvement in clarity is obvious to me, the improvment in the dynamics might just be wishful thinking on my part but I believe it is there. Bearing in mind I am still getting used to my aweful dry voice thru my cans I still felt somewhat comfortable subbing Hi de ho without feeling like crawling under a rock in embarrassment.
You can compare some of the other recordings I have up for clarity...Room with a view was recorded with an external soundblaster and husband singing little old wine drinker me with internal sounblaster

Cheers would appreciate any feed back

Haven't gone with an external one yet.  As I said, the one in my laptop has worked great.  I did however take the info from karyoker and update my sound card.  I could tell a definite improvement.  As usual though, I don't think the average crowd could tell a difference.

If you are setting up a pro recording studio (or doing serious recording) then Lynx is one of the standards but would be considered overkill in live situations.

In most crowd noise rocking it would be total overkill. It is a matter of economics and logical use...
