Quote: I'm reminded of the scene in the Simpsons where Homer finds a pair of glasses in the toilet, puts them on and recites "the sum of the squares of any two sides of an isoceles triangle is equal to the square of the remaining side," and a voice comes from the next stall: "That's a *right* triangle, you idiot!" (Still wrong, though. Not *any* two sides of a right triangle; the sum of the squares of the two legs is equal to the square of the hypotenuse. That was the deeper joke.)
That joke is even deeper when you realize that Homer was reciting the Scarecrow's line in the Wizard of Oz. The Scarecrow totally botched up the Pythagorean Theorum. Only in the case of an Isosceles right triangle or Scalene right triangle can the Pythagorean Theorum work. As you stated, you need the 90 degree angle for the hypotenuse (side opposite) to exist. Either that, or the only way to determine if a hypotenuse exists (in an extenuating circumstance) is if it's noisy or clogged, and sometimes when you are sitting under it (when the upstairs neighbor flushes the thing), the damn water overflows down thru your ceiling fan, and floods your condo -Which incidently is about as humorous, deep, and tasteful as my current humor..
So I'm going to sleep.

Pythagorean Theorem? As I recall that was 9th grade Geometry. Never did think of it as creepy though; however I suppose if someone picked up a pair of glasses from the toilet and put them on I would think that was creepy. Then if they started reciting the Pythagorean Theorem guess it would be creepier.

As for the Pythagorean Theorum....I like Proof #35
Cracked Domino - a proof by Mario Pacek
This new, extraordinary and extremely elegant proof of quite probably the most fundamental theorem in mathematics (hands down winner with respect to the # of proofs 367?) is superior to all known to science including the Chinese and James A. Garfield's (20th US president), because it is direct, does not involve any formulas and even preschoolers can get it. Quite probably it is identical to the lost original one - but who can prove that? Not in the Guinness Book of Records yet!
As far as toilets over flowing....If water overflows down thru your ceiling fan, and floods your condo...That gives a new meaning to humorous, deep, and tasteful in my opinion...Reminds me of a Steven King movie :newlol:
