Hmmm....you talked to him, but still didn't tell him he needs to make vocal sounds when he is "singing" with the microphone and he smells really bad. Not sure you got anywhere.

Sounds like he may be homeless, and just pops in to sing cause he likes it and it makes him feel good. That at least would explain a bit.

Seems it shouldn't be that hard to tell him he needs to sing. He should expect that, and accept it. You should encourage him. As for the smell - pretend you are in France, or like someone said - burn incense LOL.

How bad does this guy smell? Once I was taking some classes at The University of Texas and was walking near the Littlefield Fountain. Suddenly I could smell a very strong smell that smelled like something was dead. As most of you probably know that dead animal smell is one of the strongest, most offensive. Well there was someone about 15 to 20 yards ahead of me walking away from me, and turns out it was them. Imagine them being that far away in open air and STILL smelling that strong.

LMAO I smell dead people  LMAO

I'm glad you said something Bill. I did mention to him he needs to be louder on the microphone and he did get better. He was afraid he was to loud.  LOL You can barely hear him, but at least it is something.

I think you may be right about him being homeless. A patron  saw him peeing in someone's yard in the middle of the day and it would explain him always having the same clothes on. It makes you wonder how the guy affords drugs and alcohol then. He is obviously drugged up almost everytime I see him. I feel sorry for people who are down on their luck, but it is hard to feel bad for someone who chooses to live that way.

Babs,

I think you're doing great taking it a little at a time. He's less likely to get defensive than if you bombarded him all at once with everything. And if you try to say everything at once, you're likely to say something in a way you didn't mean to.

I'm glad he's singing louder (if he still thinks he may sound too loud, just tell him it's your job to correct that, not his, just sing out) Also, you go girl!!! talking to him when he was less intoxicated!! I'm so glad he took that well. Maybe if you think of a way to mention his smell, he will take it as a friendly advise thing, since you seem to be approaching him in the right way with everything else. Maybe if you said something like you're having sinus problems and strong smells bother you....Maybe "hey, I'm glad you enjoy my karaoke so much that you come straight from work to have fun, but would you mind freshing up a little in the bathroom.." I don't know, maybe you can work off these ideas somehow. I really don't know how I'd handle the situation.. It's easier when you meet someone to know how to approach them...

Stinky was back last night. He sat in front of the stage again and cleared out the whole table. Arggg !!

He was saying nasty sexual things to the guys about me in the bar. He almost got decked. Then he stold a cigarette from my friend. The bartender had a talk with him and he sat at the bar quietly after that. When he came up to sing I turned my back to him until he was done.

I won't post on this anymore - sorry if it is sounding like a broken record. It just helps me to vent a little. I'm just so tired of this guy and it doesn't look like the owner is going to get rid of him anytime soon, so I'll just have to learn to deal.

Thanks everyone for listening.

Babs, no problem. Venting is a good way to help you think out a situation.

doesn't it suck you don't "RULE" the place, kiddo? I remember wanting to just LAY DOWN THE LAW to my last gig... and eventually I had to say, "it's not my place... the owner will do what he wants to do!"

Many, if not most of the homeless people like that have mental problems so it isn't really by choice. They may also have substance abuse problems. I used to know a guy that had a PHd in Geophysics and had a great job working for an oil company. One day he snapped and changed his name. Next I heard he had quit his job and was living on the street. There was definitely something messed up with him.

We all have our little glitches, but most of us manage to hide them from others and move on with our lives and function to varying degrees. I'd say the homeless are not at that level.

Bill
