For some reason though, I seriously doubt I have any kind of future as a Chippendale LOL

Bill,

Richard would love to be a storm-chaser but I’ve asked him to refrain… He did go to a one night class on storm spotting though….  When the last tornado that came through here (just missed our store but took out part of 12th street and took out our dtr-in-law’s grandma’s house) Richard was right behind it on I-44 between Chickasha and Moore and followed it in to Moore.  I kept asking him to pull over (I was sitting in the hallway with our puppies and a bunch of pillows) and don’t ya know, he kept going!

Was that the one during the night or day? One year there were two either the same day or one day after the other - I forget. I missed the first daylight one, cause I was up on the Kansas border, but I was there for the night time tornado as it crossed town. I got close enough on the east side of town to be in the atomized rain of the bear's cage. Those things are kind of spooky at night, particularly when you are in the path, and in the city. Seems a bit surreal.

The one that came through in ’99 just missed our pregnant dtr-in-law… We were in Midwest City/Del Cit but made it home (at that time the Village)..  That year they were going in every direction..  Richard made trips into the affected areas with his pickup taking in supplies for the rescuers, I was in the gymnasium of a high school turned relief supplies.  The tornado victims came in for food, clothing, furniture, etc…  Both experiences were very humbling and we met some incredible people, victims and rescuers alike…

I’m sure Richard would love to hear some of your stories as he has respected my wish that he not chase storms…

I love storms and tornadoes, but I don't like it much when they come by the house - particularly at night. I live about 1 mile from where a tornado from the Jarrell supercell tore up a grocery store and subdivsion. I'd rather just sleep at night in towns and in the hill country. When I'm out on the Plains I will chase at night. I've chased at night in the Tx Hill Country and usually end up getting chased instead. It gets a bit 'hairy' sometime, but keeps me from being bored I suppose.

Singing Squid,

I'm not so sure we haven't found your second career!  Who knows, you might be able to retire early!

Susie :)

That was late afternoon, early evening.  Richard was coming home from seeing a customer (in our other business). Our house was originally in the path, then it moved North, the tornado, not our house.  Our store is on NW 5th and it came up to the West of us (Janeway, etc.) before heading East on 12th.  Of course, the fast food restaurants, etc. on 12th are basically all new as they were removed by the tornado.

I wouldn't want to chase them myself but Richard would love it...  I'm not famililar with the Jarrell supercell but it is certainly more difficult to get a grip on where they are at night.

I've gotten pretty accustomed to tornadoes since living here and wish that the news wouldn't make such mountains out of molehills during bad weather as it needlessly frightens some people and makes others, like myself, basically ignore the interruptions...  If we ever get together Richard would love to hear your stories!

Susie :)

Hey Susie, maybe some KJs from up north there could drive down when we drive up. Kansas City has one I'm sure who wouldn't mind driving the measly 5 hours to say hi.

That would be a great idea!  Have you settled on a night you'll be here?

Matt, Ruthie, Kevin - how about it?

Susie :)

P.S. I would suggest a Saturday night.....  We'll ask Amy or someone to do the show...

hey, I'm game!

I drive down to the Joplin, MO (actually Pittsburg, KS, but most people don't know of it, despite the state university in the town) area to see my grandfather! That's a two hour trip!

Ok here's where I come in. We storm chasers often get together and have parties, some big and some small. However last 5 years or so we have created a National Storm Chaser convention - so far held in Denver Colorado at a hotel there. People from all over the country (and other countries) attend.

Now it occurs to me that we could do the same with karaoke - at least karaoke built around Karaoke Scene forums...have a big national convention / party. These usually last a couple of days. People can fly in and you can meet all the folks you chat with not to mention hear them sing in person.

You could also get one or more KJ's to host this. What do you think, am I crazy?

Don't give up hope...

I keep noticing that the current trend for each new one is always a little further north LOL

Now if we could get a westward trend working in there too - that would make Charmin really happy... Hi ya Charmin :wave:
