Yeah I do those Soundchoice custom disks but never saw where you can download for $2. That would be a much better deal. I could just download and build my own custom disk simply. Where you find this at Bigdog?

Seems that would be kind of stupid of them to go after people posting karaoke performances. IMO that really wouldn't be the same as people trying to copy and rip off with pirate tracks. Instead just folks trying to show there performance using legitimately purchased tracks. That's kind of what is going on in SS, but perhaps the DMCA prevents any posting of licensed tracks in any form? If so, probably they need to rework this for karaoke peformances, and a lot of the manufacturers would probably back it. Things like SS and online karaoke promote the growth of the karaoke market for tracks / disks. To go after people heavily involved in it would actually hurt their market.

They don't care that it may/may not help the market, they want their busts.  Just like they did with Napster.  They are losing money every year, so what do they do to recoup - bust/fine people for copyright infringement.

RIAA going after web karaoke performers
The RIAA is already well known for suing individuals using satellite radios or for illegally sharing music. Since this obviously didn't generate enough work for their lawyers they have now targeted web karaoke singers, who publish their videos on sites like YouTube or Google Video.

Performing a show to other people's music in front of a camera is trendy nowadays. The success of YouTube is mainly based on this trend, although different services have similar offers for a few years already. But web karaoke shows like Gary Brolsma's performance of "Dragostea din Tei" were the reason for the giant success of sites like Albinoblacksheep, Vimeo or Googleidol.

But in the beginning of June the RIAA started going after the creators of these web karaoke videos on YouTube. In most cases - probably meaning all cases - authoring and licensing rights were not settled, an agreement of the copyright owner did not exist.

The RIAA although formally probably right, seems to go the wrong way here. They're aiming at a very prosperous part of web culture. The lobbyists are still seeking for ways to make themselves extremely unpopular. But even more it must be highly doubted that their actions will do any good for those they represent with some web videos making unknown songs famous.


It looks like the RIAA always finds new ways to go after anyone, who in their opinion, illegally use the music of those they represent. Sadly, they don't seem to care about the effects this will have for the artists.

There was a really big list of songs that were downloadable.    Now if you think about it for one or two songs that's cheap.    But that equals $30 per disc, if you but a disc, it's $23 on sale at most sites.    :whistle:


A new song request list is nice, however.    I mentioned before that my song books are edited to remove that major swear words and RAP/HIP HOP, violence and sexual content.    This is all done to maintain a somewhat respectable crowd.

The type of music you play determines the type of crowd.    :O  :shock:

Play all country, who shows up?    

Play all punk, who shows up?    

Play all rap, who shows up?  

I practice crowd control.    I run the show.   I set the tone for how the crowd will behave.    I keep the crowd mood flowing up and down like the gentle waves on the ocean.

I take requests but they will be subjected to my approval first.   If I think it doesn't fit it doesn't get bought.     Simple as that.   It's my money and my show.      I don't get, nor do I want the screaming drunks.   Fights are almost non existent.    My singers are more serious and more talented than the average hack gets.    You need to keep this in mind.    What type of a crowd do you want?      Respectable people sing respectable songs.  :hug:  :worship:

It also reflects the reputation of the bar.    Bad reputation, bad bar, no money.

Yes these are video downloads for $2, not for use in commercial venues, although people will.  Second problem is the availability is minimal compared to what's available on cdg & the legal custom sites.




Now if YOU think about it, there's a big difference in buying a $23 disc that may contain 1 or 2 songs you really want on it - so figure 3 songs per disc (giving benefit of doubt) - you want say 9 songs in particular, those 9 songs are on 3 individual discs @ $23 per disc, now you are spending $69 just to get those 9 songs.  Download 9 songs @ $2 per song, now you only spent $18 of nothing but songs that you want.  Even if you go through the custom disc sites which many are $4 per song, 9 songs equal $36 - ok 10 songs minimum so $40.  Still cheaper than buying 3 separate discs for 9 songs when the rest aren't anything you'd want or need.




Just because you have a new song request sheet doesn't mean you have to buy them, but it does give you an strong idea on what people want to sing - especially if you do not have it.

Not any worse that being penalized for singing a duet.   They will get use to it.

Same reason I edit my books.  But it doesn't mean they can't request it.  I never guarantee I will pick up a song - my request sheet even states we will TRY to pick it up, lots of factors involved, but again, it gives me an idea of what the crowd wants.  Generally it's more like classic rock or country requests, but I do get requests for all genres, doesn't mean they'll get them.
