Re-invent the wheel?
What will be the advantage of learning a totally different numbering system?
Once again what works for you is not what may work for others.
When the wife started the KJ biz, she wanted it as simple as possible. Therefor do away with MFG numbers. The numbers are too long, and too many chances for errors.
SHe did like Karayoker and Lon hinted at. She bought a 30o slot disc holder, and labeled the slots and disc with a number starting at 1, and going to 300. When that one was filled the 2nd cd holder started at 301 and went to 600.
So now her disc were labeled, and it was easy to add more, and easy for drunk singers to write down a number.
CB8514-14-01 became 31-01
Not only was it easier, it looked a lot neater in the books. When we switched to computer based, there is a folder for each disc. Now if I have to go to the disc for backup, if computer failed, I have no prblems, casue each number system is the same. Here is what a file name looks like in the computer for CB8514-14-01
031-01 - Byrd, Tracy - I'm From The Country (cb).ZIP
AND IT SAVES ON INK
