I was buying the Top Hits Monthly COUNTRY/ROCK/POP/HIP HOP CD+Gs from them every month for my new releases.  Have to say I'm totally disgusted with THM and their decision to discontinue the monthly ROCK CD+G.  That puts me into a dilemma.  My 2nd biggest group of singers like stuff like Chili Peppers, Seether, Audioslave, Stone Sour, Breaking Benjamin, Staind, Shinedown, Disturbed... etc.  What do I do now?

What label now has the best Modern Rock selection each month?

Thanx for the help!

Maybe Pop Hits Monthly? They seem almost identical to me, but I'm not a kj, I just have a few cdgs. :newlol:

Sing it Now (monthly) and BigHitz (quarterly) have good modern rock selections and sound pretty good

Unfortunately, Pop Hits Monthly removed their monthly ROCK CD+G from their line-up over a year ago as well.  That's when I switched from them to Top Hits Monthly.

I've never hear of Sing It Now or BigHitz... I will check into these.  Are they comparable to THM/PHM?

thanx for the advice!

Sound Choice does those artists.

I have a very small amount of those groups.     My song book is edited to remove the undesireable language and subject matter.

Makes for a much calmer atmosphere.

A couple of those artists are kaaoke no-no's such as the Chili Peppers - they were allowed at one time, but pulled their permission a while back.  Audioslave has never granted permission, THM & PHM were doing them w/o permission.  Green Day is another that is a no go.  Sound Choice would be the next logical step, but they don't produce all those artists - at least the newer stuff.  However, from what I understood was that THM is just dropping their rock line, but will be intermixing some rock tunes into their Pop line - could be just internet heresay though.

Dang, I did not know that... I guess that I should feel blessed that I got Tell Me Baby and Dani Califronia when I did.  So what would be the recomendation?  Would I still be getting a better selection (ie the no-no's) by ordering the Top Hits Monthly or is now the time to switch to the Country and Pop Sound Choice each month?  I mean Green Day, Chili Peppers and Audioslave are like, must haves.  That sux that they have to be that way.  Is there any other notable groups/singers in the other genres that are on the no-karaoke list?

My current feeling would be that if THM/PHM are going to only be able to offer the same titles as SC, then I'd rather have Sound Choice.

thanx again!

P.S. This must also be the reason why we haven't seen Crazy B#### out on karaoke yet...

Well here's just a few that don't license for karaoke simply because the artist refuses or the publishers refuse.  It doesn't mean they HAVEN'T allowed stuff in the past & the older stuff may still be available due to different publishers or it may not have been written by the actual performer, but have since changed their stance for karaoke at this time.  Again, these are just a handful that can't be legally produced at this time.   Which is probably why THM quit doing rock discs, they seemed to produce stuff that legally wasn't obtainable.

Van Halen
Sammy Hagar
Don Henley
Buckcherry
Heart
Bruce Springsteen
Sheryl Crow
Paul Simon
Stevie Nicks
Randy Newman
Pearl Jam
Soundgarden
Alice In Chains
Jewel
Linkin Park
Green Day
Bon Jovi
U2
Led Zeppelin
Red Hot Chili Peppers
SheDaisy
Queen
Most anything from the ABKCO publishing
Most anything from the Disney publishing - although they are now releasing their own karaoke discs.
And many many more........
BUT WAIT!!!!

Rolling Stones - although SC JUST got permission recently to reproduce many of their songs.
Kinks - again, SC go permission recently
The Who - SC just got permission
Sam Cooke - SC just got permission

Wow, I'm feeling pretty fortunate that I have several of those singers at all! (mostly on SC). And I'm thinking the Who is allowing theirs to regain interest from a younger crowd due to their new album out :D

Quality-wise I would rate them a little below THM/PHM, but they are definately above average in sound quality and always have the latest songs.

I have to order custom cdgs from UK to get some great rock tracks for me to sing.  A lot of Deftones, Alice In Chains, Rage, Godsmack, Mudvayne, etc.  So far so good for me, knocking on wood.  I don't like that I have to buy two pop songs to one rock song I do on the THM or PHM pop discs.

Really? Bon Jovi??

A lot of those artists are on the SC foundation set - guess when I get it I'll have a lot of songbook editing to do - I wonder what I'll be getting in place of the ones they can't sell anymore...

Again, it don't 'necessarily' mean the older stuff, it could be artist or publisher reasons, but at this time these artists are denying karaoke rights.  But Sound Choice has already stated that they are having to re-vamp their Foundations because of changes in licensing.

Thanks, I hope it doesn't mean the older stuff... It's going to be hard enough to try tracking down Eagles songs - but adding Dead or Alive, Under the Bridge, etc. to the non-list is going to really be a bummer.

Awesome website by the way!

Which website do you order from?

Also... I did some looking into the most recent 2 months worth of new Karaoke that THM has put out and Sound CHoice.  Looks like THM has everything SC has.  Approx. the same price for more songs, and the THM material has come out anywhere from 1 - 4 months earlier than the SC.  (I like getting new releases before other KJs)

I've always liked the quality of THM so I'll continue getting their new releases even though they took my ROCK CD+G away

I wouldn't take "decomissioned" songs or artists out of your book and stop using them!!

At the time you purchased the discs, they were legal, so I would think that in any court of law if for some reason they wanted to try to charge you for having currently unlicensed songs you could just play dumb and say that no one sent you the memo that the license had been yanked AFTER you purchased the disc. No one is going to prosecute you for a simple mistake like that!!

Songbook editing?  No if you find it on a disc, YOU are fine.  It's the manufacturers that have to stop producing them.

No no, these are relayed from the studio manager from Sound Choice.  There are actually many more, these were just listed on their board recently.
