I dont know if it's me or the recording... but when I record a song, I listen to it and I sound muffled, like a have a stuffy nose even though I don't!! I record using audacity but all I'm doing is plugging my mic into my laptop. I mean, when I sing I dont sound that way, but when I play it back, it sounds like that.. any ideas or anwers on why?

I just listen to your song At Last. The recording was clipping badly. You can hear the muffed sound more on the loud part; that is when you hit the red mark.

Try lower the mic volume and watch the recording level; dont let it go beyond the yellow mark. When you have to sing the high part loud, back up a bit. Hope that help, and I must say you have a good voice.

And by the way, I just sub a song which was recorded the way you just described; does not sound good but more of a demo.

Hey Junebug..:)  I am an Audacity veteran so to speak..lol....this is what I would do...

1. Go to the Audacity homepage...http://audacity.sourceforge.net/about/features

Download the VST enabler, and insert into your Audacity folder.

2.  Go to the Kjaerhus Audio homepage, and download the "classic compressor" and

the "Classic master limiter"...Honestly the stock Audacity features are kind of

crappy, aside from the stock "echo" which is pretty decent, and the "G-verb"

which isn't so bad....insert these plug-in's into your audacity effects folder.

3.  Let me know when you have that accomplished, and I can give you some
ball-park settings to use, all of the above mentioned plug-in's will cost you
$0.00......if you have any trouble just let me know....:)

4.   Here is the Kjaerhus Audio link.......http://www.kjaerhusaudio.com/classic-series.php

if you are using a pro mic straight into a laptop it wont ever be clear unless its a usb connection.

I have this occur from time to time with my software, although I use Vegas 4.0.  I suspect that sometimes the software is trying to remember the exact audio settings you used the last time and something gets gummed up (just a theory).  Always works for me to just shut down the computer and start it up again, making sure you hardware (microphone) are connected before doing so.
