Ok, I am lacking on the technical portion of all this.  Sure I can run the show but the whole recording thing has realy got me confused.  To I think I should be able to plug my mic into my laptop, play my cdg and press record on something and have it record me.  Perhaps I missing something, cause that isn't working for me.

I have Audacity and I recorded once with Singing squid and it was an aweful experience. No words, couldn't hear the backing and had to sing the song over and over and I thought it sounded horrible.  And I know I can't be that bad of a singer cause I get a lot of compliments and I get request all the time when I go out to sing with others and do duets.....

So I am attempting to download the free cool edit pro right now.  I am hoping that I can get this to work.  I'll be back with questions.  Or if you can enlighten me on the reality of recording I am open to that too.

Thanks,

Sharon

It's telling you that what downloaded was bigger than the sending server said it was going to be.  Possible garbage (static) or a virus piggybacked in the download.  Data is suspect so delete and download again.

Thanks Dave...the prgram is not showing in the add/remove programs.  So I went into explorere and deleted it from therfe and then out of my recycle bin.  Tried to reinstall and it keeps telling me that it is already installed do I want to replace it.  And I say yes and then in a matter of 2 or 3 seconds it is telling me it is done.  And then when I click on run it give me back that same error message as befor except the numbers are much smaller.....

OK, I gave up on the cool edit pro download.  I've downloaded Audacity.  Now I need to network to the machine that has all the songs on it.

I'll keep you posted as I have more questions.

Added in later - I am now on hold until Rich gets home.  Can't find all the music on his machine....10k songs and I can't find them...What's wrong with me???  Don't answer that....

And I may need to add this...Don't know if I mentioned before.  all I have is a mic, cdg's, a laptop and Audacity.  All my music is on the husband's hard drive.

I was gonna say......Audacity should work just as well. When I first got the "trial" of Cool Edit Pro, it would only let you save really small samples of your recording (like... 60 seconds I think it was).... so that wouldn't do you much good. (if it's still the same way)

I have Audacity, though I don't use it. I'll try to play with mine, so I can maybe help you out. (IN private PM) God only knows, if little ol' me tried to give you advice here, some of the big boys would surely try to make me look ignorant. (sad... but true) But, I get pretty okay recordings, so I must be doing something right.

Maybe I can call ya.... I have your number saved I think in a PM:)

(i just wanna hear you start subbing songs....)  :D

I know what you mean.  The last time I tried I was recording direct on the file and ruined a couple of my favorite song with me in it....Does that make any sense at all??  If it can be messed up I can certainly do it.  I'm gonna see if I can make it work again this evening.  Thanks

Sharon pro mics dont like being plugged into your puter unless it is a usb condensor. YOu will probably need a lil mixer you will have far more control that way also
