Been awhile since I've been out here but I need assistance with a project of mine.
I own all the old Pioneer laser discs, and would like to convert them to a cd+g format. A lot easier to lug around that way. So, NOT being very computer literate, I figure someone out here can walk me through the process. I'd really appreciate it.
         Thanks 8)

get a converter... something like Dazzle or Pinnacle's product where you hook up an audio/video device, and it hooks up to your computer via usb. A blue record screen like a VCR pops up on your computer and you record in realtime.

It's a hassle to do it, but well worth it in the long run!

You need to capture them to the hard Drive.     Plextor ConvertX

Then you need to mark the files.    Video Redo Plus

Then you need to cut the files.    Harry's tools

Then you need to name the files.    ?     Didn't get this far yet.     But it uses KJPro data base.

I have them all captured.   It takes a 400 gig hard drive.     Over 2000 songs.   I'm about half way done.     Marking and cutting.     It's a monster project.     But it's gonna be worth it.   When I'm done, I will be switching to a computer setup.

A side-by-side comparision looks just fine.   Can not tell the hard drive from the real disc playing them together, switching back and forth.

You will need a computer with at least a 2 gig processor.     Lots of memory.    Good sound & video cards.   I use Sax & Dotty.     With a smaller processor, when you queue up other songs, while a video is playing you will get glitches.    The video will stutter and skip.   You can watch the processor graph and see it working like crazy to keep going but it goes off the chart.    Just like a microphone going into distortion.    It can't keep up.

You can't convert them to CDG. But you can convert them to video. That's what Knight and BG is describing.

Right Jian.

I have a set VCDS made from the lasers.     Pioneer came out with a set of CDGs and they started to do a DVD set.      The CDGs are just words with the music.    The DVDs are the lasers converted to DVD.    I am converting my lasers to computer hard drive, to play on the computer.    With the music, words and video.      I do not think you can convert a laser to a cdg.  The words are on the video.   You would get the music, but no graphics.(words)

CDG doesn't support that kind of graphic.

OK guys. Now I'm more confused than when I initially asked for your help. So....let me see if I have this straight, then you'se guys can correct me.
I have a Dazzle connector. I have a Plextor Premium Burner. I have Goldenhawk. I have Pinnacle AND Nero. I have a Pioneer 888 laser player, I have KJ Pro. What I DON'T have is the way to convert from laser to CD+G. I don't have a VCD player for the road, and don't want one. I use a Pioneer V10G and a Numark CDN25+G and a Pioneer V121G for laser and CD+G. I was under the impression that you could put lasers onto cd+g format somehow, someway. I already knew about the VCD format,   what a pain....never could quite get it right. Then again, like I said Initially, I'm not very computer literate. So...one more time. Can you people help me out or am I kicking a dead horse?

Thank you for your assistance thus far,

there is an AVI to cdg converter out there somewhere. IT converts the format to .bin, which can be further converted using mp3toolz from .bin to .cdg

Been looking for that one; avi>cdg, can't find any yet. There are more than one way to do the cdg>avi/mpeg.

You can not convert directly from video files, such as LD or AVI to CD+G. They are totally incompatible file format. CD+G is a basically a music file with sub CODE that has lyrics that comes on queue as previously programmed. LD  or AVI is a disc where the lyric is part of the video. There is no way to decode the words because it's part of the picture.

Remember those pictures that put dates on the picture? It's like saying I want to scan that date in to my computer along with the shutter speed and film speed off the actual print. You can't. You can, however manually enter that data and you can do the same.

You can convert the audio portion of LD or AVI and convert them to mp3 file. Then you can use lyric creation software for Karaoke and enter the lyrics yourself. That can be done but it's way too complicated and takes too long.

What I did was to conver the LD in to DVD and I have a player that will play CD+G and DVD Karaoke and that works.

With all due respect, that statement is not totally true. The bin file is the combination of a mp3 and synchronized text file. When it converts from bin to mp3 and cdg, it actually just extracts the files into 2 components, text and audio.

That's why, if you split the bin into the 2 components, you can do a key change on the mp3, and combine the 2 again into a bin file, without any problems.

Converting CDG > AVI possible, the other way around?

You can convert CD+G to AVI but not the other way around.

from what little research I've done (due to the fact that I have honestly no interest in this other than I've heard of the suckers), you can use either Nero or MagicISO to create a .bin file.

No matter the original format that was created, shouldn't the mp3toolz be able to convert that to a mp3+cdg format?

You guys can prove me wrong. I'm just going by the clinical definition of what mp3toolz does, and what this other converter in Nero or other video programs do.

It is not possible, you can convert a avi to a bin. That is a raw file format. You can convert cd+g to any video format it plays the graphic file and records it as a video.

Cd+g is music and a sync text file. You can not convert any video format to cd+g or mp3+g, video can not magicly change into a test file. I guess it night be possible to write a program that scans the video file and creates a graphic file, but at this time it is not possible.

WRONG WRONG WRONG....If lildog only knew what it was talking about.

I have a machine that has Sax&Dotty's Presenter, running with videos, 6,000 karoke songs and 15,000 DJ songs, wit NO glitches.  It has a  750 MHZ processor with 512mb RAM.  It keeps up just fine!

You DO NOT need a 2 gig processor, and "lots" of memory.

OK foot in mouth.   Are you running converted Pioneer Laser discs?   AS mp3 and the video file.     Meaning laser discs captured to a hard drive.     That's what the man and I are talking about.     Not just some CDG junk (words and blue screen).    I'm talking about actual videos.      Moving pictures with words.

You may be running a sub par VCD version (containing much less information) of them.   I highly doubt it's what I am doing.

It took a 400 gig hard drive (it's 95 % full) to hold over 2,000 converted laser disc  songs.   It takes at least a 2 gig processor to run with out taking the chance of having glitches whenever you are selecting other songs for the queue, while the video is playing.   Not a CDG.   A video made from a laser disc.    I tried a 1.4 or 1.6 and it glitched.   A 2 gig processor will give you some head room.

And just which program converts a laser video (movie) into a CDG?  (Blue screen with words.)   Houdini couldn't do that trick.

It's going to seperate the video from the words, turn the video into a blue screen so you can read the words. LMAO
