In 14 years, Halloween has fallen on a good many of my karaoke nights.
This year Halloween is Tuesday. The bar is having their party on Saturday, when they have a band scheduled.
My question is why do they always ignore the karaoke crowd? Tuesday is actually Halloween, not Saturday. I know that more people can go out on Saturday, but there are many people that will go out on Tuesday, because that is the day.
Why can't they have a Halloween party Friday, Saturday and Tuesday. I have seen some advertised for Friday. The karaoke singers always get the short end of the stick. I don't think they should be ignoring the regular faithful karaoke crowd. It's like they are not suppose to like to dress up.
Attention bar owners.
Karaoke people like to have Halloween too. Do not turn your back on the paying karaoke customers.
Besides, it's another night for you to make more money.

Most bars will run their Halloween party as most people have house parties - on the Fri or Sat closest to the actual day. We are having ours on Sat 28th & whatever the normal entertainment is will apply to the night. If you feel that strongly about it, have a party for your crowd Tue. Do some special giveaways to anyone in costume. Maybe a game........uh, oh, sorry forgot who I was talking to with that recommendation. Point is the bar is generally going to do it on the weekend because - well you already answered, more people can come out on a weekend than they could on a weeknight. Not that I haven't seen weeknight Halloween parties with clubs doing them on them nights, just not as often.

My point is most of the karaoke crowd is more loyal than the crowd that follows a particular group. It's not the same band every Saturday. Each week is a different crowd for the band. The band that is playing on that Saturday may not have benn here since April. So their following gets the party, while the people that come every week get screwed.
I don't get paid enough now, let alone I should provide cash and prizes. That ain't gonna happen. I'll still get my money with or without a costume party. Bar owner will be the one to lose potential money.

Halloween karaoke is awesome but one has to relax the karaoke rules and cater to the crowd And yes it is mostly DJ unless you have a whole bunch of singers It is one of thse nights when even rotation rules are bent When people are having fun they could care less whether they sing every rotation or not. Come to one of our parties and your old philosophies would be a thing of the past.. You would have a hell of a time keeping up with the pace and not sure whats goin on but after awhile you wouldnt care...

I can do an all karaoke, anykind of party. Rotation still matters. Just because they have a costume on, doesn't mean they went brain dead. :O

Band followers tend to spend more as well & party longer - especially on weekends. Most weeknight parties tend to - as a rule - die off fairly early, weekend parties can & usually do last till close. Does the band have a good following? Are they any good?

It doesn't matter if they totally suck. All the bar owners seem to forget the ones bringing in regular steady money. The lucky ones are the people that follow the band that is going to be there Saturday. They will reap the free prizes and awards and promo stuff. It may be the first time for that band to be there. The karaoke people still get screwed. I just don't think it's fair to them. :(
What's wrong with a party on every night they can milk it for. Tuesday is the real holiday. It's sounds like at chance to make more money to me. But then again my I.Q. isn't low enough to own a bar.

Do you not do karaoke on saturday night some where?
We are having our Halloween party on Saturday in our bar and it is karaoke.
All bars that I know of do it on the weekend day closest to the holiday. People aren't going to stay out until 3am and drink heavy on a week night because they have to work the next day. It isn't karaoke getting snubbed. People can still go out, dress up, and have a good time if it is a band or karaoke. It just happens it's band night in your bar on Saturday.
If your people are that interested in having a halloween party just for the karaoke people on Tuesday - do it. All you have to do is tell people to dress up and that you are celebrating both nights. We never give away prizes for halloween costumes and still have a packed house. Post a couple signs - like you said I'm sure the bar owner would find it a good idea to bring people in 2 nights for a holiday party and make the $ off of it.

Hi BD
What bar owner does? LMAO
That's why I suggested you post the signs - If you still have time I'd try and do something. I can't imagine people coming to karaoke on the actual day of the holiday and not celebrating. I'm sure people will still sing halloween songs and acknowledge it's halloween. You could have a contest for funniest halloween song and give away a bag of candy to the winner. Be creative and have fun.

Our little bar will do their thing on this Satutday but that has never stopped us from doing the reall night too. It's just a lot of fun.
Does anyone remember the ugly bud girls from a few years ago. We had the KJ, Bartender and the security guy dress up like them one halloween. It was hysterical. Rich even sang "Stand by your man". Nothing like a man dressed as a woman singing a song that starts out with the line "Sometimes it hard to be a woman" LOL

That's what I said! If it's that important to him, then have the party yourself. 10:1 karaoke people will go & find their party on Sat as well!

I'm talking about the bar owner having good business sense. It has nothing to do with me, per say. I just think they should be rewarding the regular steady paying karaoke customers. Not a once every couple of months band crowd.
No I'm not going to put any of my money toward the Karaoke Halloween party, that isn't taking place.

We are having a pre-halloween party on Sunday as well as the main one on Tuesday. Actually we will have halloween ghouls wandering in and out all weekend long. I had some LAST SUNDAY as well. The Party NEVER STOPS!! And I agree that the bulk of it will be regular DJing with a lesser number of karaoke singers. As to bands--apparently BD's managment is of the opinion that the band is a better producer than BD and his Karaoke crowd. May well be so. Have to look at the sales numbers to be certain. Wonder if that management looks at BD's Karaoke as a SIDELIGHT to the MAIN ENTERTAINMENT. Apparently so if they are booking a band as opposed to BD's Karaoke show. Why does Karaoke take back seat to bands and special events???? One reason and one reason only....the band generates better sales.

Bar owners and good sense in the same sentence LMAO
My bar owner never told anyone anything about when we were celebrating. I asked the manager last night and she said she wasn't sure. I told her if we don't have a crowd it isn't my fault. No advertising or letting anyone know what's going on. I announced last night over the mic that I think the Halloween party will be Saturday - this was sort of a jab to the owner, who was sitting at the bar. I would take it into my own hands and post signs in the bar if he would just ask me.
One year the ding dong booked me for Halloween and then I found out he booked a band too because he forgot. Of course I was the one who got bumped and he had no crowd. Aaaaarg!!!

One of our bars (karaoke Weds, Fri & Sat) is having their Halloween party Friday because most bars will have theirs on Saturday. I think that's a great idea... The prizes are $50 gift cert. for 1st and $25 for 2nd. They will also have T-shirts, etc as give-aways throughout the night. This bar owner is an astute business man and is constantly looking for ways to please his customers.
Another of the bars (karaoke on Saturday) will have the Halloween party Saturday. The prizes are $50 (1st) $25 (2nd) and $10 (3rd) - bar tab. Last year was great! The costumes were amazing!! This bar owner is also an astute business person with multi-decade, multi-generation regulars (singers and non-singers).
I haven't heard a thing from our Tuesday night shows...
Oh yes, the Bud girls! Years ago Richard and 2 guys that he worked with dressed up as them and went out on the street for breaks and lunch waving at cars! What a hoot!! It was alot of fun going into the 2nd hand store with the 3 guys and looking at dresses! The bird seed in the bra was a little heavy tho.... This was pre-karaoke for us so no singing...

I have Halloween partys:
Friday: Bar is owned by a guy that has 2 bars the bigger bar's party is on Sat
Sunday: It's the busiest night of the week, my regular Karaoke night, they wanted me on Sat but I have a Wedding.
Tuesday: The bar is having it's regular Halloween Party on Sat, but we will have a second on Tues, with no cash prizes.

I'm fortunate that the bar owner & manager work with me with promo's and such.
But my mentality is different than BigDog's; even though our bar is doing the "Saturday band night party" I'm still going to do something special for my Friday night singers. I don't look at it that I may be putting out money to make the bar money, I look at it that I put out the money to show my appreciation to my singers. And every time I've brought something to the table, the bar has always added something to it.
