I posted a similar post over in the tech forum to get the KJ perspective, but I want to know what you singers think:
Do you think a MySpace page is effective as advertising for karaoke shows. Maybe not advertising, per se, but more like keeping regular singers involved and more active?
I was thinking about going the MySpace route to post new song lists, videos of regulars singing, updating pictures weekly, etc.
I know that one of the main things my regulars seem to want is the sense of community and almost family that they have with me and each other, and I see a good MySpace page as being a great way to further that sentiment.
Comments?
As a singer, what would you think would be effective on a KJs MySpace page??

sounds like a great idea, topher! don't know why no one has mentioned it before. fokls can make requests and you can blog about each show if you want. a capital idea, old boy! capital in deed!

There's a "DFW Karaoke" MySpace group...I don't see why the same type thing wouldn't work in your area

You can also use that feature that bands use by sending friend invites to large groups of people. I've checked out a few bands that way.
But yeah, I'd say probably a good idea if implemented right.
Build a page with pics that show the hosting clubs, KJ hosts, singers, and pics of the live events. Throw in some occasional video and audio of shows. Layout things to advertise your show. Send regular announcements to your friends list.

I've had a group set up for out club for a while now. I'm also seeing more often the clubs themselves setting up an account for their patrons to stay informed.

You need to decorate that page Lonman like some of the crazy band page IMO.

The MySpace thing is a good idea in concept, but it is becomeing trashed with a buch of crap now. I belive, original MySPace was a environment for bands, singers, ect to network, but now it is becomeing a glorified dating site. And when will MySpace start charging for content, it can't be too far off. Rember whant the Yahoo Personal were free? They got tons of users and started charging.
I would say find a cheap web hotsing site, and do it yourself from there. Mine cost me $9/month, and I got my own domain name.

Bill
You can't customize the group pages at this time. I have my personal site decorated a bit.

but why, wouldn't that be redundant. But perhaps, that could be started, and then we could keep this to karaoke only....

Started a group today in MySpace. Click the WWW button to go there.
I did it this way so that people in our area can keep up with each other. The main focus is Karaoke singers in DFW Texas but anyone is welcome to join. We have plenty going on that we are involved in and I don't wish to bog down this site with our goings on.
I don't mean anything negative.

Alright Chuck. Although I am a world away from Texas, I joined your group. I think we can create a group just for Karaoke Scene Forums users, not to discuss even further but just to see the private lives of everyone. It seems most people, including myself, put more than just karaoke things on their myspace account, just a thought. FYI, if you want to invite me, it's http://www.myspace.com/ebenworld.

Anything people want to talk about on that page is fine. I hope other people will be able to start threads too.
I see you were able to join, good.
Anybody and everybody is welcome. The topics don't always need to be about karaoke in Texas either.
ADDED: Changed it to reflect the group. Click on the "WWW" button on the bottom of this post to get there.
