BigDog will still be BigDog no matter what is been said here. I think you guys are taking him too seriously when he start claiming to be the best. Oops, The best among the best; that sound more like BigDog. Many of us here hate it because of that claim and the fact that he insisted that his method of running the show is the only correct way. We all know that it is not true. There are as many ways to run a good show as there are many good karaoke hosts. For example, in my country we run a completely different rotation system that work great and is used in all karaoke bar in the country. But will it works in the US? I don't think so. Are we doing it wrong? definitely NO.

BigDog can claim to be the bestest 'cos no one can prove otherwise. He hide behind his nickname and does not give location. Does he have Karaoke knowledge? Yes he does, many of his post prove that. Is he real? Only BigDog can answer that one. But he won't.

Where did I ever say that nobody has fun at my shows.    Doing nonstop, continuos karaoke music makes everybody smile and have fun.   They can not go to any other show around and hear as many songs as I play in a night.   That makes for many happy singers.

Do I ever mis-que a song.   He** yea.   Do I make fun of myself.  He** yeah.  Do I call myself a jerk over the microphone, He** yeah.   Do I have fun, He** yeah.   Do they laugh and have a great time, He** yeah.  Tonight there were many people dancing both fast and slow.   Did a customer pay me to play over, He** yeah.    3 weeks in a row.

Lets talk about hacks.

There are hacks lurking here as guests.

There are hacks that are members here.

There are hacks that participate in some of these threads.

They are the people that will use one speaker, if they can get away with it.

They are the ones that perform and use systems and such, that is just good enough to get by.   Never upgrade or update.

They are the ones that can't figure out some type of a fair rotation.

They are the ones that can not get good paying karaoke jobs, because they suck.

They become the undercutters that keep you from getting the kind of money that good KJs should be making.

They are the ones that play favorites to their friends.

They are the ones that make themselves sound good with reverb and every other effect know to man and turn everything off when someone sounds better than them.

They are the ones that sing 3-4-5 times in a rotation.

They are the ones that want and need to be the center of attention.

They are the ones that have sucked for the last 15 years.

They are the ones that treat everyone like a jerk, because they are one.

They are the ones that give good KJs a bad name.

They are the ones that want to start a quallity karaoke business with $400 and their livingroom stereo system.

They are the ones that will not take advice and don't think they need to.

I never named, names and said anyone in particular on here was a hack.   Did I?

BUT IF ANY OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED THINGS SOUND LIKE WHAT YOU DO, THEN INDEED I AM CALLING YOU A HACK.    The sooner you fail, the happier I'll be.

You make it bad for anyone that is trying to conduct serious karaoke.

You hurt our image.

You hurt our ability to make the amount money, we deserve to make.

You drag us down.

Did I mention that I hate hacks?    I am on a mission.   To put an end to karaoke hacks.   If that makes me a bad person, in your eyes, then it does.     When you come to the realization that "us" as a whole, have been and are being hurt in our wallets by them, then you will see.

This doesn't sound like it is all about me.    It's about everyone that wants to do what I do, without paying the dues.    Without the investment.   Without the professionalism and dedication.

It's about you.   The ones that do what it takes.     Why do you want to take the side of the hacks?      I will never hurt you, like they can and do and will.

Just because you just started a karaoke business this year, doesn't mean you're a hack.     You are a newbie.      If your intention is to do business as described above, you are a hack.    If you want to conduct business as a settle-for KJ, meaning just enough to get by, you're a hack.     If you want to undercut everyone just to keep working, because you're a jerk that can't keep jobs and don't want to do all that is required to put on a quality show, you are a hack.

Did I step on any toes?

This is not about doing things my way.   It's being a quality business person.   It's about being an upstanding representative for all KJs.     Someone that can and will promote quality karaoke.     Someone that takes pride in being a quality KJ.     If all of this upsets you, you have a problem.     You may very well be a hack in denial or in diguise.

I am not the enemy.     I am just sick of hacks ruining our hard work and reputations.

You keep bringing up the stats of the one you keep referring to, seems like a personal vendetta to me.

Been reading the thread, and I'm kinda curious.... Bigdog, who on this forum do you consider your "equal", or *gasp* even better than you, when it comes to running karaoke shows, based on people you've talked to on this site? Just curious to see what kind of list you'd come up with... if any. Or, at least, if you don't want to do that... What percentage of posting members on KS do you consider "hacks"?

Sorry to have to ask this, but curiousity got the better of me.

BTW, good point Lonman.

A vendetta against all hacks.

There are many around and we have all seen and heard about them.

It is a problem that directly effects and hurts you, me and all of us in general.

They all fit into the same mold.   She is not in a class by herself.     She is but one of thousands.   A plague on our chosen filed of employment.

Once again, you pick things out and twist them.   LMAO

If you use one speaker, because you are lazy and you think it's just good enough for karaoke, then yes you are a hack.    I don't think you fit this one, yet.

Just because you are or are not a memeber doesn't make you a hack.

Doing a free job or a deeply discounted one-of-a-kind promotion, to get a job,  doesn't make you a hack.    Continuosly having to play for peanuts, because you suck, makes you a hack.

If you continuously do the things described earlier, then yes you are a hack.    Those descriptions are a combination of many hacks that I have know or heard about.   Not just one individual.    Thankfully, Most have failed miserably, I might add.

That is not my web site, I don't have one.   For the sake of the innocent parties involved, please refrain from posting facticious sites, that are not connected to me in any way, shape of form.     You are setting yourself up for a slander law suit.    Not from me, because I don't have a site.     Just some friendly advice.

It is now and always has been my intention to promote "quality" karaoke.     If that is offensive to you, I'm sorry.

KJchris, to answer your question about the number of hacks on this site.

First a hack can be equal to me or better than me.   A hack can have $100,000 setup.   Doesn't mean they don't do any of the above descriptions.    I guess you have never seen or been told about some hacks in your area?    Nobody else on here has ever seen or heard about a hack?   It only happens to me?    In this whole country, I'm the only one to hear about or run into hacks?

There are many on here.      There are many more, that are not on here.    It shouldn't be to hard to figure out if you fall in to the hack description.   The question is, do you?

I will continue to promote quality karaoke, as should everyone that cares about their profession.      Not wanting to promote and produce quality karaoke makes you a hack.

A hack in our business is no better than a back alley abortionist, a quack Doctor, or an ambulance chasing lawyer.    If these are what you want to be likened to, you're a hack.

QUALITY and PROFESSIONALISM.    FAIRNESS and PROMOTION.    Improving our collective reputation.     Not hurting it.

This is a general statement, directed to the collective audience.

You don't think these things are worth standing up for?     You want to be associated with hacks.     Do you want to be generalized with them.   Yeah you KJs are all alike?    I don't and won't stand for it.     You should pray every night that another hack fails.   If that makes me bad, you are a hack.   Wear your "HACK" badge proudly, but know that I will do my very best, to do everything I can to aid in your destruction.   I do not want our profession over run by hack wannabes.    I do not understand why any of you would.

and go ahead and bring on the law suit, I stand behind my statements.  If I am wrong, then tell us lildog, where are you based @......

I've seen this woman's show. BDs description of her gear is pretty accurate, although the room very small. BDs setup would be way too big for this room. But the bar is pretty successfull, maybe despite her, but it's hard to think that doing it for 15 years is anything but a success. From what I've seen,I think the majority of BDs compettition falls somewhere in between this woman and his setup. But there seems to be plenty of work in this area for these so-called hacks. BD seems to be the one out of place. He has this incredible system that may be far superior to the competition, but it hasnt made much of a difference to the competition. I think the general public in that area doesn't really care that much that BDs system is better.

Part of 15 seems to be messed up. I think what he wanted to list was
Sundays - GL
Tuesdays - PB
Wednesdays - GL
Thurdays - BPS
Saturdays - TG

bye pghpat

Hey  BigDog, want some Gumbo?

Cajun Gumbo

4 pounds chicken thighs
1/4 cup olive oil
1 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 (28-ounce) can tomatoes
2 cups chicken broth or water
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1 dried bay leaf
1 (10-ounce) package frozen sliced okra
1 1/2 pounds crabmeat, shrimp, crawfish, lobster and/or surimi
1 (10-ounce) jar medium oysters, drained
1/2 cup chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

  2. Place chicken thighs in a single layer on a shallow baking pan and season with salt and pepper. Bake 45 to 50 minutes or until done*. Remove chicken from pan and set aside to cool. Deglaze pan with a little water, scraping the bottom to remove any browned bits and pour pan juices into a fat separator and set aside. When chicken is cool enough to handle, pick meat and discard skin and bones.

  3. Meanwhile, heat oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pan over medium heat. Add onion and green pepper and cook until tender, about 10 minutes. Stir in flour, reduce heat to low and cook 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Add garlic, and cook for 2 more minutes, or until fragrant. Stir in tomatoes (undrained), chicken broth, red pepper flakes, thyme and bay leaf. Increase heat and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until slightly thickened. Cover and and cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add chicken, pan juices (discard fat) and okra. Return to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes. Stir in crab, oysters and parsley. Cook gently 5 to 10 minutes or until oysters begin to curl and crab is thoroughly warmed (if using shrimp, shrimp should be pink and opaque throughout). Season to taste with salt and pepper. Serve over rice in soup bowls.

Makes 4 servings.

*Chicken Test for Doneness (per Washington Fryer Commission)

No matter what method you use for cooking chicken, the most accurate test for doneness is a meat thermometer. Since chicken is never ready to be served unless it is done, always be sure it is completely cooked. Whole or bone-in chicken should reach an internal temperature of 180°F, and boneless chicken should be cooked to 165°F.

Other indicators for doneness include:

1) A fork or toothpick can be inserted with ease.
2) The juices should be clear, not pink.
3) Bone joints move easily.

Recipe provided courtesy of National Dairy Council.

As long as we have to deal with idiot bar owners that think the cheapest price should dictate how they should hire a KJ, we will have hacks.   We need better educated bar owners and wannbes.   Then we may see an end to the undercutting hacks.

I am but one, great KJ that is taking a stand against hacks.   You should join me before they kill us all.

AS far as the room she plays, if we are or not talking about the same place.   My newbies get 2 subs, 2 tops on stands and a 6 foot table with all of the 800 lbs of the required gear in there.     If she has room to put 2 tops, one on a stand and one on the floor, she has the same amount of room.    And I can bet her tops are not as big.

She is just lazy and she sucks.    I candy coated it a little, for the faint of heart.   LMAO
