the other thing is, the kid's not a minor, so the officer was under no obligation to speak to anybody. Believe me, I've ran into this myself!

Babs, my daughter hasn't started driving yet, so I'm kinda nervous about it.

I have two sons who have been driving quite a while. Fortunately, they are both somewhat mechanical and can usually figure small breakdowns out on their own...... but we did have a funny thing happen while we were gone.

We took my sons car to California the last few days, and he used my hubby's truck while we were gone. Well, monday night he broke down in a town about 20 minutes from home. The truck just died on him and wouldn't restart..... he did check the carb to make sure it was getting gas (it wasn't, though he had just put gas in), he cleaned the battery cables to make sure it was getting good contact, all that minor stuff you'd do on side of the road, but he couldn't get it to start again, or get gas to the carb. He figured the fuel pump had went out. Fortunately, we don't live in a very populated area, and my kids know how to tow a vehicle. He called a friend who lives by us to bring a chain and come tow him home. (so... no tow bill, thank god)

But all it was..... My hubby's truck has 2 gas tanks, but only uses the front one. My son had someone let his foot flip the switch to the back tank (which had NO gas in it).  :roll:

Unless something very major happens that a vehicle couldn't be towed.... my kids would never call a towtruck. Cause, well, we don't either. It's too easy to just call someone to bring a chain or towrope.

But, my daughter......  :shock: ....... I dunno how she's gonna be. I'm telling my husband he needs to get her acquainted with minor engine repairs so she could get herself out of certain situations.  I think we'll just have to make sure she gets a vehicle that wouldn't ever break down, unlike the old trucks my sons usually drive.  :D

But I can imagine how mad you are at her..... I would be too.
Atleast she got home safe..... Thank heaven for cell phones.

I find it amusing that you guys are talking about problems you have with your kids, that are around MY age! I want to speak up for my generation.... because I have NEVER had an accident, have never run out of gas, and I maintain my OWN car. When I took a defensive driving course when I was 15, and when I turned 16 I got my license, and was fully licensed quickly. My parents always let me use their car, with no concerns. Heck, in Alberta you can get your license at 14:)  99 % of my male friends have had accidents, minor and serious, and always run out of gas and end up walking or pushing it. NONE of my girlfriends have had such problems.....

But, yeah, Kids. I love em, but I don't think I could eat a whole one.

I often forget the age differences on here. I guess in reality, you're NOT much older than what my son is.... he's 20. Seems odd, cause to me, most of us are kinda grouped together, ageless kinda people here online.

What you're saying.... is how I want my daughter to be. I was the same, though I never drove much on my OWN until after I was married. I drove, but usually with mom or dad. (didn't get licensed till I was married almost a year) But, (now comes the "old lady" speach, haha) back then it was no biggie. We lived out of town, and to drive without a license was something - everyone did. But after I was married and licensed, and would go off to town..... most times I had to figure something out on my own if I broke down.

Never ever have I had an auto accident.

But I am the QUEEN of running out of gas on side of the road. I've just resigned myself to the fact that I'll always do that. I hate taking time to stop for gas. I look at my guage and think "yeah, I bet I can make it on home then back to town again tomorrow.."....... 9 times out of 10, I don't make it:)  Then I get the lecture from my hubby "why don't you just STOP AT THE GAS STATION?!?!"  :D  It's dumb, but just one of those things I'm bad about.  I'm kinda bad about checking oil and water levels too, though I know that's important (especially in the old clunkers I drive).... but I often forget until I overheat or hear the motor pinging....  LMAO

Do I Really Care- You're right about them moving the car. The thing that bugged me is if he would have talked to me and waited 5 more minutes until I got there the situation would have been much easier. Policemen in our area won't push a car for any reason.

Lol, kid, i love being called a kid;) Heck, i HAVE a kid, and I still AM a kid... buit then, i will be 80 and still a kid.
