Ouch, but you don't like the fluffballs. As far as the marketing goes, not a good idea, my expiration date has long since expired. I'm just like a can off spam at this point, there's enough preservatives in this body to give me a hundred year shelf life.

"Baby Got Back" is old school rap, and lumped in with the 80s music. HARDLY what one truly considers true rap or hip hop nowadays.
Heck, I've been known to do "Parents Just Don't Understand" on occassion. That type of fun rappin' is great karaoke. There's precious little of the regular hip hop or rap that I like. Some of the very popular and mainstream stuff I can get into, like Usher's "Yeah" for example.
Laurajean, I'll tell you for a personal standpoint that the bigdog doesn't show his own examples, won't tell people where to find him, no website, etc... so take his rantings exactly as that. Roll up a newspaper and shoo away the little critter!

Sure but they will still have a job dj'ing, while you are back out looking for the pure karaoke clubs that won't exist anymore.

On a 'slow' night I bring out a lock-out buzzer system and do a sort of 'game show' name that tune that everyone loves. Am I ruining other 'KJ's' shows or doing what I can to keep my show lively? Sorry, but that is not strictly karaoke, but it might be more fun!!!!
If the crowd likes it, that's what you do. Always try to keep things alive & upbeat. I go to places all the times that do some kind of game throughout the night. I know one club that did BINGO with home made cards. The top word was something music related & the column numbers were disc numbers to songs, the host would call a number between every song & the winner would have to sing the song (last number called...suicide) that they won on plus get a small cash prize. It was a kick.

Done posting again, forgot how these fluffballs ticked me off!! Sorry to have wasted you good hearted folks time.
Don't let fluffball get to you, that's his goal. Since he can't/won't let anyone know where he plays, pretty much everyone writes him off as a loser anyway that spouts off all the hype but probably owns a VocoPro 1 speaker setup & the Backstage collection & calls himself God! Not sure WHAT he/she is afraid of in letting people know where it plays, but like all afraid dogs, they just go cower in the corner with their tail tucked between their legs & bark loudly at their preditor.

The places i've been to karaoke that didn't have stages were pretty much small class dive bars. MAYBE the reason he don't expose where he plays, embarrassment will do that. Quote: *Alienate dance music Ah, but he'll play a karaoke song without anyone singing, thus taking time away from the singers he's trying not to alienate. Ok...First off, let me say hello to everyone here, my 1st post(or reply to a post)
I've been reading the site off/on for about 6months. This post caught my attention & I decided to join to chime in. Although I do understand the meaning of the post, I couldn't disagree with the post more. I "MrD" own a karaoke/dj business. I have only been on my own for the last year plus, but have been around karaoke in my area, which is in Michigan...for about 8 years, I know..not long in some of your eyes. We have places that do a "karaoke night", we have places that do a "dance night" and we also have places that do a mixture. Some of the other posters here have said...your job is to do what will bring in the customers...period! From my own expierence a 'mixture' show works...much better in fact, than a show of just music or just singing. The places that do a just karaoke night are really only successful on weeknights, the weekend party nights...Friday/Saturday do much better with a combination show. If you want to just go out and sing, you go somewhere on a weeknight...If you want to go out and have a great time, reguardless of whether you sing or not, you go to a place that does both. I know many people that go to the mixture shows..that have NEVER sang a song.....they still have more fun, there than at a bar that just dj's. One should not feel slighted when a dance song set it played, it really keeps people coming in and staying in. It's the best of both worlds. They will stay, knowing that sooner or later a dance set will come up. I do agree that you don't want to be over run by dance music, but you are in control of that..and you don't let that happen....DO YOUR JOB! MrD

COOLIEs, a breath of even fresher air. Or did LilDog mutate to go to the other side....
Anywho, I got to add something. WHY ARE WE SAYING "DANCE MUSIC". It can be any type of music from rap, to hiphop, rock, metal, punk, swing, disco, ect.... I have a couple rock remixes (AC/DC for one) that realy get a crowd going, and I don't consider AC/DC "Dance" music and the inclanations that come with that term.
Iguess if only having country and show tunes for lilDog works, that's OK for him, but he is missing out on a LOT of $$$$$ by limiting himself.
And if someoen is "alienated" by a certain genre of music, I don't want them at my shows. I don't want a buch of people that only like country, and won't stand for anything else. My crowds are a mix of ages from 18 to 90, and all social-economic levels.
BTW, probably had s GREAT night Sat nite, had a great group of singers, the non-singers were into it with lots of applause and chearing. And even when I played a couple "nauty" videos (Buck Cherry and Tenacious D.) EVERYONE was in to it. God if you are in a bar after 10pm, and are offended by some nudity or swear words, go back home to bed and pray for your soul.
BTW, I am officaly taking over the title of Karaoke Host GOD. If ya want proof I will post pics, video, audio, at leat more than lil dog has done.
Here is a start......

(note: WEBSITE for my business)
These are some pics of a recent Barn dance for a 25th wedding anniversary. Had the crowd captive for the entire 4 hours, 90% of them were in their 40's or over. Didn't allenatr them either.
