My mom called me a couple weeks ago and told me one of her friends
saw my name in the newspaper back home. It was for people who had
money that wasn't claimed, stuck in the system. My mom filled out the paper work and sent it in. I received a letter yesterday. It was me alright.
Woo hoo ! I don't even remember what it's from. Now all I have to do is fill out some more paper work varifying it's me and get it notarized. How sweet is that.

I know you're already engaged but will you marry me just for a few weeks?

Make sure it isn't a scam. I am always very skeptical about things that say I am owed money.

Babs I doubt there would be anyone that would argue the point that you are one of the sweetest around and well deserving of a windfall methinks

I have never heard that term before (windfall). My dad called it that on the
phone and I had to ask him what it meant. LMAO

I thought it was more like standing downwind of someone who ate baked beans for lunch and kinda getting dizzy

this actually happens frequently. banks and other institutions that handle other people's money must submit to a publication (and i think the publication has to be local and i also think it has to have a certain amount of distribution) when they are about to close accounts that have been active for a certain amount of time. once the notification goes out, if it remains unclaimed, the bank or whatever insitution it is, is entitled to it.
this public service announcement has been brought to you by....
the son of a banker
( know y'all thought i was a son-of-a-something-else)

Actually, many states have laws that if the money is unclaimed it must be turned over to the state and then, if the rightful owner files claim, it is returned to the owner. Banks don't get to keep it.
