There are so many on that list, but the ones that really made me crack up laughing to the point of tears are 1) Dumb & Dumber, 2) Ace Ventura, Pet Detective  3) Caddy Shack -not necessarily in that order. There are many others that weren't on the list....Black Sheep, Tommy Boy and How to Lose A Guy In 10 Days are actually at the top of my list!!

When I first watched it, at about age ten or so, I thought "The Jerk" was incredibly funny.  Now, not so much.

My top three, in no particular order:
This Is Spinal Tap
The Naked Gun
Liar, Liar

I can't believe Monty Python didn't make the cut.

I guess Some Like It Hot (starring Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon, and Tony Curtis) didn't even get nominated.  Shame.

Junvenile does not = funny in my book.

Well, damn it DS, you are not allowed to just attack the question without providing an alternative answer. What are YOUR top three funny movies, and what makes them funny?? I assume that you are just stating a preference for more sophisticated comedies/dramadies, but I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't think AIRPLANE and NAKED GUN are friggin hilarious!!

OH, by the way, my current top 3 are:

1. The Big Lebowski (the most witty take on the laid-back California lifestyle ever written!!)
2. Old School (the BEST of the juvenile movies in the last 15 years...and juvenile DOES = FUNNY!!)
3. Office Space (extremely intelligent and witty take on corporate life)

With Monty Python and the Holy Graille and History of the World, Part I with honerable considerations!!

ALSO, just as an aside, there is a voting site on IMDB, THE imminent movie site on the internet, where hundreds of thousands of people have voted for their favorite movies. According to that site, the top comedies of all time are:

http://www.imdb.com/chart/comedy

Note that thislist DOES include CARTOONS and dramadies, but doesn't include dark comedies like Fargo and Pulp Fiction for some reason!!

Pulp Fiction is a CoMEDY???

Has it's funny moments, but they're more of a snicker than a guffaw that I expect from comedy!

"Dirty Love" is one of the funniest movies I've seen.
It is an adult comedy though I wouldn't recommend it for the kids. It is more for the gals, I'm not sure the guys would appreciate it.

There are so many that are at the top of my list that didn't make the cut...not to mention several others on the list that I really like...but I'll follow the rules and not post any others from the list.  However some others not on the list that I just love are Some Like it Hot (Tom Eaton mentioned it) Its A Mad Mad Mad Mad World, Rat Race and Top Secret. Nothing intelligent about any of them, but they sure were a laugh!! Ok I'll stop now LOL

The Marx Brothers made some of the most hysterical comedies ever...my favorites are "A Night at the Opera", "Duck Soup" and "A Day at the Races".   W.C. Fields had some good ones too, especially "It's a Gift" and "The Bank Dick", all well worth seeking out.  One thing I discovered in the video age is alas, while I loved the Three Stooges growing up and watching them on TV, it is nigh well impossible to sit through a complete hour of them on DVD...just too much at one time--you need to see them in limited doses for the full effect.
