I wanna sing this for the school talent show, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0Zijq09f1o , man it is really good but I'm a descent singer and have tell March to get everything straight.  But I don't even kno where to begin!!!!!!!  I've never reached high notes like that at the end ever before in my life all of my high notes seem like I am yelling or screeching.  I don't kno how I should go about approaching this song since I want to do it the way he did it.  I kno I can't sound exactly like him but if a I can do somethin similar to him it will be great. Any suggestions and/or tips on what to do, would be greatly appreciated.

practice singing it like it is, then drop the key one half.....then drop it one more half, and see if that suits you. If that doesn't work, sing it at the regular key, only at an octave lower to start, then move up one half, and then another half, and see how you sound there. I'm assuming you have a backing track, or the original always and forever song........just a suggestion......good luck

I haven't heard the original version in a long time and don't quite remember how it went.   Also Will the backing track add something cuz that guy sounded fine without it.  Would I still be able to sing the song like him if I do tho?  Another thing is I don't kno quite what u mean about the bolded parts I'm not really into studying music or anything.  Man, I sound ignorant

I am not exactly sure what you expect from us. We dont have crystal balls (well I have but thats another story) so we are unlikely to be able to predict if you could do it as well as the other guy because we have never heard you.
I can tell you that singing without music is very difficult because you havent anything to keep you in time or in tune. The link I went to showed a young man who was confident and comfortable with his talent. If you were, you wouldnt be asking us would you?

I have to echo Morgan's comments.  If you don't believe you have the range you shouldn't try it.  Your best bet, especially for a talent show, is to select a song that is comfortably within your known range.  What do you listen to on the radio and sing along with that doesn't cause you discomfort or strain?  (Oh, and doesn't contain swearing!)  This being your first time in front of a large group and being judged I don't think that this is the time to try something that will land you on your rump for all the world to see.  I've been there.  Not fun.

You have to be very good to sing without musical accompanyment.     You need to have vibrato in your voice.   Especially whenever you hold a note.     Listen to him and you can hear the note wavering.    Your annunciation will have to be very clear.   You don't want to "pop" your "Ps" or "hiss" your "Ss."    You will have to keep time very well, by tapping your foot or counting in your head.

Mmmmmmmmmm... do you have another song that you do really well or feel more comfortable singing and working on making that sound extra special instead?  I think if you are entering a contest this might be your best bet--take something else you can handle well and work it up from there!  Good luck, Michael

Nah I wanna try this song.  I'm goin to do it over and over again until It becomes second nature.  I believe I can reach the high notes but I don't think I'm goin about it the rite way to do it.

good luck but you run the risk of ruining the integrity of the song simply by doing it to death

Well if you insist! Just some advice that I've learned on those high notes: try opening your soft palate when you sing this high up (by that, pretend like you're yawning--notice how the back of your mouth, just about where your tonsils are, seems to "open"...practice that and then try singing the high notes.  

Don't try to open your mouth so wide like you are yawning but aim for that "open" feel you got when you did that.  In your mind, pretend these high notes are coming from your stomach and out through your head.  These mental images are incredibly effective. Remember too, you are not screaming but singing so you don't need to really force them out like you were yelling at somebody.  Let me know if any of this stuff helps you any...

The yawning technique works well for me too and it will get you to those notes. You have until March to get used to using your voice that way. You can probably do it the way Michael said but I recomend practicing another tune too just in case. If you happen to have a cold on the day of the competition, you may have a lot of trouble sustaining those high notes when you need them. It's best to be prepaired.

I don't want to sound like I'm putting anyone down But I have to point something out. The singer that the link points to in the first post. He made at least 20 mistakes in his song. If you can hear them and avoid them then it might be the right place to practice doing that song. If you don't notice them you might end up doing them too.

But see the thing is I wanna sing a romantic song that would put everybody in that mood, both young and old.  A kind of song that u would sing to your girlfriend.  I don't kno any new songs that I find r mature and sexy like.  I  asked my mom what song I should sing and she said she didn't kno.  This isn't a competition by the way, its just a school talent show.  No first second or third place or anything.  I gues I won't sing Always and forever, I like a challenge but yall r rite its a little bit TOO risky.  I tried to sing it just now for my mom .  The search continues.
