Yes, but it's about people singing songs they think will get the crowd dancing.    They are trying to put themsleves in the position to entertain the crowd.   They feel if nobody dances, they (the singer) suck.    So now instead of singing to have fun singing, they sing songs they may not want to sing, because of some imaginary pressure to keep the crowd happy dancing.

No they pick songs that they enjoy singing.  I believe there was a poll here not too long ago about how singers feel when there are dancers & it was pretty much on the high scale that the singers got more of a rush when there are dancers.  I do not believe anywhere, anytime anyone said that if the crowd don't respond ie dancing, that they feel the singer sucks.  Quit putting words into peoples mouths or twisting them around to suit your needs.
Entertaining the crowd is what they do anyway, may as well make it something that they not only WANT to sing, but could be a good crowd pleaser as well.

During the holidays we did  birthday party and I was asking her what songs she wanted for kj and dj She says you gotta have Pussycat Dolls Dontcha  I got both kj and dj and even sang it with her.. It is one of my favorite songs.  Another one they dont expect from me is Vertigo...... Two more for the younger set.....

At one venue I played 30-45 min of DJ before the show.. And while I am starting to tear down play DJ music....And I guarantee you I am not worried abut filling the dance floor with any kj or dj format..But it is threads like this where Im makin a list and seeing if I have them both KJ and DJ .....

I get heavy dance activity at the place I DJ. Sundays is latin salsa dance music with more dancing than karaoke(mix 70-30), since they come primarly for the salsa dancing(thats a whole universe unto itself)! and half of the Karaoke is spanish/latin karaoke. But all the styles are blended together and everyone likes all of it.

Wednesdays it more like 70-30 Karaoke to dancing, with the dance music being primarliy hip-hop(start the eveing with Earth Wind & Fire and disco to warm it up then some 80's then transition into hip-hop and prsent top-40 with MR. Wintle. Then later introduce alot of old shool YO MTV RAPS hip-hop. Everything from Usher Yeah to Tupac to De La Soul to Wu Tang Clan to In Da Club to Regulate and eveything in between. If Im not playing it then I get complaints. Its what the custies come for so we give em what they want!! Music gener is not WHAT I LIKE(blues) but what the CUSTIES WANT!!

:D  It doesn't matter to me if they dance while I'm singing or not.  If the song I'm singing is fast enough, I do enough dancing for everyone.   :dancin:  I just have to be careful, though, and not run out of breath!   LOL  :worship:

What got me started was I did a few weddings for friends then started doing parties anniversary birthsday grad etc  Some very lucrative So last year I invested alot in DJ stuff and enlisted the aid of the teenagers I was doing parties for..The I had to get spanish tejano new mexico kumbia etc...  At the parties they always want both KJ and DJ  especially if there is a dinner involved with background... But since the ones doing the hiring were old friends and custies if I do a dance set at one of my shows they dont bat an eye and if there are 2 or more couples dancing they wait.. Our older crowd dont need to sing every rotation Let the kids have some fun.. If it turns into a big rotation then the old rules start applying more...

Well maybe what really started it was when the cutest most adorable little spanish gal was right in face saying Do you have spanish dance music?  I got tejano I got new mexico I got kumbia I got reggae I pulled up a search she looked we want that one..... Ok Ill play it in a little bit A big smile ok and she was gone.. I finally announced a spanish dance set and played it The gal and her husband started dancing and the whole place just stopped and watched.. They were awesome Needless to say they became regulars and I got them on the floor at least 2 times a night..

They judge people by the clothes they wear, skin color, national origin, the way you sing.   So there are some that will feel that so & so gets people dancing everytime they sing.  They are really good.   Then if nobody dances when they sing, they could think they suck.   I have done it and seen it.    You or other people want to slow dance and someone is butchering the song, it kills the mood and they don't feel like dancing to it.   Especially if they suck.    Just can't seem to be romantic, when your ears are aching.    Or you're laughing about it.   I guess that never happened to you or someone you know?

You just must not have a crowd that likes to dance.  We have a fairly large dance floor & It gets used - good AND bad singers alike slow or fast.

People do not dance at karaoke here that is something that does not happen.

The amount of energy in the room can be controlled by the muisc played inbetween singers.

Man that's too bad.  Last Sat we had a packed floor nearly every song.  There were a few song choices that kind of killed the mood, but they quickly recovered.

We always thought one of the best selling points of karaoke is broad range of music to dance to. When you have ten to twenty good singers I actually like it better than a band.. All it takes is a nail it top performance from a singer or two and from then on nobody sounds bad and the energy from all the singers and non-singers makes for  a good night. Some nights this ol body aint even tired  LOL Till I start tearing down....

Put a sign up that says "NO DANCING ALLOWED---VISTORS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO GET OUT OF THEIR SEATS EXCEPT TO SING"

I had a place that did that.  They didn't have the correct cabaret license & got fined over it.

Here's something else that is quite painful:  when the person you are slow-dancing with is singing along badly.  Ugggggghhhhhh...
