If all you want to do is worry about people dancing, then you should be a DJ.

I'm starting to see why not many work full time.

Jeeeze, what? now people can't dance at Karaoke?
Lighten up, what's wrong if folks want to get up and dance.
I think it's great. It just adds to being 'more than just Karaoke'
it's all about entertaining everyone, not just the singers. I mean I don't intentionally direct the show to include dance tunes, but if it happens, then go with the flow.
I mean it may be a way that the non-singers have a chance to enjoy themselves.
If I were a singer, I would be proud as all get out, if the tune that I was doing actually made folks wanna get up and dance. Unless it's etched in stone some where that dancing if forbidden, I say go for it.
Dear god, next you'll be telling me that I'm a hack for letting the kids come up and sing Old McDonald with me....LMAO
Seriously, I don't see how this affects whether people work full time or not.
Some of us have more work than we can handle and maybe just maybe it's because we offer a full entertainment show rather than just sticking to a rigid format.
I mean if that's not your cup of tea, then so be it, but please don't assume in any fashion that because some of us like to have a little bit of fun that we're less than professional and lacking in work.

Wow--me, Lonnie, Janes and Curt must be the only ones not working the geriatric circuit!  Most of the stuff mentioned in the earlier posts almost NEVER gets any play at my shows.

Honestly, I don't get a lot of dancers at my show (which must mean it's good, right bigdog) but I do get a lot of what I'd call "front row concert action" where the audience members will come to the edge of the stage and interact with the singer by singing along and performing what the Blue Man Group dubbed rock movements numbers 1 and 2 (The basic head bob and the one-armed fist pump).

I've never seen a black person sing Baby Got Back, wonder why?

I have heard a lot of people, both black and white, do that song.  Oddly enough, it's often women who sing it.  At one place where I go a lot, there's a black girl who often sings it.

I never said dancing at karaoke was wrong.   I don't care if they dance or not.   They do dance at my karaoke.   I'm just not going to play dance music or filler music.   They can dance to karaoke music, til their legs fall off.   LMAO

Okay, well I just re-read the whole thread and I'm pretty sure that every song mentioned was in fact a Karaoke song. So does that mean we still get to be KJ's? ;)
But I do agree about the dance/filler music just for the sake of playing something.
Although I've been to everyone of the Karaoke shows in my immediate area and they all play filler music. On one Saturday night, I traveled to four different bars hosting Karaoke, and each of them played that f***ing Cha Cha song. Not only is it a horrible song to begin with, but it never fails that the dance floor fills up with drunken rednecks all trying to line dance in a 5 x 10 floor space. I don't know maybe it's just the area that I live in, but as soon as I hear that crap, I'm out the door. Thank goodness I've never had anyone at my shows request it.

Once you start it you'll be screwed.   It's just like scary karaoke.   Playing the regular song, so someone can sing with the real artist.   Next thing you know they bring in off the wall stuff, talking about somebody's mother.    I thought I would be a nice guy and do it many years ago.   It turned into a cluster. %$#&@....   More and more people started doing it.     With nothing on the screen the crowd starts to get antsy.    I had to put a stop to it.   I told everyone that someone accused me of scratching their disc and wanted me to pay for it.    I said I won't do it anymore.

If people want to dance at karaoke, then they better get use to dancing with a live singer.   LMAO

Woo hoo! I'd love a visit. Marty is just down the road from me too. I think he
only does private gigs on the weekend, but has a bar job on Thursday nights.

My dance music is mostly taken from the current top 20, recent top 20, or dance classics, like:

Hey Ya - OutKast
Get Low - Lil John & Eastside Boys
Sally (That Girl) - Two Live Crew
You Shook Me - AC/DC
It's Tricky - Run DMC
Gold Digger - Kanye West
My Humps - Black Eyed Peas
Poison - Bel Biv Devoe
Closer - Nine Inch Nails
Yeah - Usher
Jump Around - House of Pain
Sugar (Gimme Some) - Trick Daddy and Ludacris
Slow Motion - Juvenile
Salt Shaker - Yin Tang Twins
Badd - Yin Yang Twins
Keep Your Hands to Yourself - GA Satellites

And I always end my show each night with "Let's Get it On" by Marvin Gaye. Everyone loves that song, it is my trademark, and it winds everyone down before they have to leave the bar!!

This thread was about karaoke songs, not dj music.  Re-read & comprehend!

Yes, but it's about people singing songs they think will get the crowd dancing.    They are trying to put themsleves in the position to entertain the crowd.   They feel if nobody dances, they (the singer) suck.    So now instead of singing to have fun singing, they sing songs they may not want to sing, because of some imaginary pressure to keep the crowd happy dancing.
