I just posted on another thread and one of the most important aspects is dancers on the floor.. GThey give more energy back to the singer than applause .. As a singer for many years I know what turns on certain crowds..

Lost in the fifties
Surfin
Your Mama Dont Dance
Peggy Sue
Only You

just a few What do you sing to get the dance floor goin? I can write a book on this subject and can read a crowd in a heartbeat...Most KJ'S get pissed cause I can turn on the crowd in 10 seconds...

Where I sing the slow oldies (remember the average age is around 60 and I'm the young whippersnapper) get 'em out and polishing their belt buckles :brows:

Songs like:
Feels so Right
Can't Help Falling in Love
He'll Have to Go

The ones I have the most requests to sing are:
Johnny Reb
16 Tons
House of the Rising Sun
Big Bad John

I don't think any of them are really dancin' tunes. :D

I've also learned to read a crowd over the years and pretty well know when to slow it down or pick it up and with what. These come to mind as far as knowing people are going to get on the dance floor.  I have more but these came first to mind.

Do You Love me  - Contours
Unchained Melody - R. B.
Gimmie Some Lovin - Spencer Davis
When A man Loves A Women - Percy Sledge
Louie Louie -Kingsmen
Hang On Sloopy - Mcoys
Hey There Lonely Girl - Eddie Holman ( yes I have that range )
Twist & Shout - Beatles
Can't Help Falling in love with you - Elvis
Run Around Sue - Belmonts

I sing I love Rock & Roll ( Joan Jett ) and usually for an older crowd a slower song Sad Eyes ( Robert John )  I know there are a few more but those just came to me as I was reading this thread.

Hell where do I start...stuck in the middle with you, livin next door to alice, hooked on a feeling, boys light up, the wanderer, runaway, runaround sue, all shook up, limbo rock, when the going gets tough, takin care of business, da do ron ron, rockin robin, hey baby, spirit in the sky, daydream believer, I'm a believer etc. Basically I will sing anything that is in my range. Paranoid, get over it, whiskey in the jar, dirty old town, the weight, etc if the crowd is predominantly male

I played in bands for many years and I learned that songs that are easy to dance to are very important in keeping a crowd interested and active (having a good time, ordering drinks, enjoying themselves).  For some dumb reason I didn't translate this line of thinking to karaoke. Duh, it all makes sense now!   LOL

An ideal karaoke is one where all the singers sing danceable songs and all the non-singer on the floor dancing. No excuse for the kj to play non-karaoke dance music.

Really depends on the night & how the crowd is reacting.
Figured You Out - Nickelback (packs the floor almost everytime)
Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Hella Good - No Doubt
Bad Touch - Bloodhound Gang

Just for a few

One of the reasons I like going to other shows is hearing a song that I cant wait to sing at home....I went into rox and searched Since i   and 2 came up  Larry Welch  and Lenny Walsh LMAO

The Larry Welch turned out to be Music Maestro Awesome song Then I played the Larry Welch It was Sound Choice "Lenny Welch"   LOL  Awesome too with more violins and strings.  Usually I keep the SC and delete the other or put it in a dups folder but these I cant decide but Im going to to put the right name on them and in this case I name each with (SC) & (MM)   at the end.... Gigi which version is it that you sing?

Im compiling a good list out of this thread :)

I've never seen a black person sing Baby Got Back, wonder why?   It's always young white guys singing the rap songs.     Most of my black crowd doesn't like the new rap stuff.

If the crowd is in a dancing mood they will dance to anything, slow or fast.    I don't play anything to get people to dance.     Most bars don't have room to dance, but they will squeeze in somewhere.

Wonderful Tonight/Eric Clapton, gets them on the dance floor everytime.
Whiter Shade of Pale/Procol Harum
Can't Help Falling In Love/Elvis
Turn the Page/Bob Seger
I Am A Man of Constant Sorrow/Soggy Bottom Boys-nuttin like seeing white folks get up and dance like a bunch of drunken chickens :D
Thank goodness most of my crowd only dances to the slower tunes.

James
